A reason to keep moving me

My Dad was a broken down cowboy. He loved his cigarettes or maybe he had a love-hate thing going with those things. The closer I get to 65, the more I think about my Dad. He made it to 68. His last years he had a companion: an oxygen tank. He must have been in his late 50s when he started to realize that he just couldn't walk up to the barn to milk Lisa the cow the way he had been doing. At one point he brought home a Shetland pony stallion. I think he had the idea of starting up a team of matched Shetland ponies that could pull a cart. That idea did not last long. So I think about him as I realize that I am not walking as much as I used to. I can not do water aerobics due to the Virus. I hated those painful hours of exercising my screamy muscles and joints even as I knew I needed to keep on pushing. I have gardens and chickens that need attention. And thorny weeds that refuse to die that need mowing. This stuff provides a reason for me to raise my legs and lower them- not allowing atrophy to set in. Thinking about Dad is quite a motivator for me. In his day, he would walk to a pasture fence, whistle and horses that had never seen him before that moment, would gallop toward him. That mental picture is what I tell myself to keep for a morning meditation.

I have watched my Aunt walk less and less until she couldn't. That reminds me to move. Pools are opening here.

@paigea We have had 28 cases in the county, one of those was caught at a pool, I think I read. Not sure how any virus can live with all the chlorine they put in pools. A number of pools around our state have not opened this year.

I'm glad that you are able to keep moving. I cannot. You have nice memories of your Dad.

What wonderful memories for the most part. Just keep yourself moving and it'll get easier. I'm one of those who believes that slowly but surely works better than fast and furious.

This is why I mow. This is probably why the cats are good for me. My mom basically lived on her couch from about forty years onward. She lived to 80, if you call that living. I want a stock tank for my back yard, for water exercise, etc. If we get another stimulus check it will happen.

@GuardianGerty I love the idea of a stock tank! How will you keep the water clean? I am no good at keeping the dog's pool decent so that's why I ask. I have to drag a hose around to various gardens if I want them to live in our 90 degree heat- more exercise for me!

I am glad you have for that motivation and keeping moving is truly the best thing. I just got over some anxiety and that is what helped me. I kept my mind on other things and I would keep walking through my apartment from time to time and looking out the windows. Now I can say I am back to normal, I sure hope you can get done with all you have to do. Virtual hugs to you.

@JudyEv Last time I used a treadmill I landed in the physical therapist office. I admire you that you can use one.

@JudyEv Years ago I had a horse crash. I think it gave me sciatica and lower back issues. Even walking slow on the treadmill pounded the sciatica awake and made it hard for me to walk. The physical therapist stretched me out again. Not fun at all.
