Almost Smashed

Last night the winds came through at 80 mph, and lightning and thunder abounded. Although my power flickered, my electricity never really went out completely. This morning dawned bright and sunny, and I headed out to walk my dogs. I walked a few feet, and came to a standstill. This tree, literally right next to my exact apartment was down. If it had fallen the other way I would have been in trouble. I walked over to the roots, and stood next to them. I am 5'11, and those roots were a few feet taller than me. As much trouble as I have with my apartment, I am thankful to at least have one.

Fortunately this tree didn't fall in a wrong direction. It is quite a big wind as such a big tree could be blown down. Hopefully there are no more damages in your side. Take care!

Wow! So glad you are safe. It's amazing that winds can do that much damage to such a huge tree!

Oh that would have been scary...roomie and I were just talking about the tornado that hit here several years ago.

I held my breath a bit, praying it wouldn't turn into a tornado.

Wow, that is one big tree, must have been a big storm to take that down. It looks like it fell partly in the pool, or at least on the fence.

It took out part of the fence, and some branches landed in the pool.

I am so relieved that the winds were blowing in the direction that they were, that saved your home. This was a very close call. Great photo of the downed tree.

@Juliaacv The thunder shook my building so much I attributed every noise to that.

Thank heavens it fell away from the building. Was the pool fence damaged much? Maybe the tree hasn't been moved yet.

It was hard to tell, but I think the fence is fairly unscathed. *I got a better look, and it took down a fourth of the fence around the pool.

@AmbiePam A branch came down on our car once and we thought it would be totalled but it must have come down slowly and just pushed the car down. The emblem was bent but that was all. It's not the white car but there is a dark one under the branches.
