Woo hoo! Eating what I planted!

I was swapping comments with @1creekgirl when I remembered that I had my first culinary garden success of the Summer. She had used tomatoes she had grown in a recent dinner, and they were one of the best parts of the meal.
My sunflower is still looking good (though it appears to have been born missing a petal), and yesterday I harvested my first green bean of the Summer. Because it was my first, I just gobbled it up right there on my balcony.
Later in the Summer (if they survive my trip to Montana), I will add green beans to things I cook. How are your gardens growing? It's funny to derive so much pleasure from something that is trivial if you look at it from a "history of the world" perspective.
Any "little joys" from today to share? I live for them in these odd times.

That is a fine looking bean.
It seems like a lot more of us are posting about growing vegetables lately, I don't know if people did not do it in the past or if they feel a little more secure growing their own during this situation.
We have been eating the delicious lettuce that I planted. We started eating it about 6 weeks ago, it is almost done now.
The tomatoes and peppers will be coming on.

The only veggie that is surviving this temperature are the arugula plants. I suspect it is because they are weeds. But I love them.

Nothing new in the garden, but love raw green beans.
It is so nice to grow your own and fortunately we are in an area where many grow to sell, so we are able to buy many things locally.

One green bean, that's a good harvest! You brought back some wonderful memories, for me! Grandma had a nice garden, probably about an acre of land. She grew green/yellow beans and I'd eat them raw, they were delicious Little joys to share? Yup, Olivia will be one next month

I had 6 yellow beans yesterday, a few peas last week, and lots of strawberries earlier in the summer. Now I'm picking raspberries and lettuce. Not much else is doing much this year. The volunteer tomatoes have some blossoms, so will eventually bear some fruit, and the volunteer pumpkin/squash is threatening to take over its patch.

@TheHorse I haven't really been giving it any, but we had a bunch of rain lately so it seems to be jumping for joy.
And since I didn't actually plant it myself, I won't know what it is until next month or so. It's already got little gourds showing but they could be either at this point.

@BarBaraPrz Ah, got it. I like the image of a pumpkin or squash or gourd jumping for joy.

I absolutely love fresh produce. I am not the best at growing some things, but I do have a tomato plant (a volunteer from last year, so I don't know what kind) and I already harvested romaine lettuce twice, yum! My blackberries are just now ripening, so I am looking forward to harvesting the berries for various things from topping my pancakes, to making jam.

I hope to harvest some blackberries on my trip to Montana this Summer. The blackberries near the waterfalls near Portland are INCREDIBLE. I just replanted some tomato plants from Dixie cups to larger planters. They appear to have survived. I will enjoy them later in the Summer. Good luck to you!

My squirrels entertained me in the back yard. The weather was incredibly pleasant, and they scrambled down the garage roof to beg for peanuts.

@FourWalls Heh. Maybe they talked to local cats about training humans. I just remembered that I'll get to see my pet squirrels in Montana soon! they amuse themselves by throwing pine cones at the roof above my bed in the early mornings.

I've never grown anything. I am not a gardener and I am not sure how consistent I would be in watering the plants on a regular basis. My mom used to grow strawberries and wild strawberries on her balcony. Those were really good.

@lovebuglena There's a hose right beneath my apartment, and everyone "says" they'll do "rain showers" for my balcony garden, but they usually do it once and then forget (frowny face emoji).

I'm glad you were able to enjoy your first green bean! Victory! We don't have a garden - just weeds. My "little joy" is always my husband!

You left yourself open for all sorts of "locker room comments" with that one! But, being a gentleman, I'll just say "Love makes the world go around." (Don't let @FourWalls see your comment!)
