Day 344
Promise 423
Matthew 2:19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.
21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22 But when he heard Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:
23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
We are known by many names. We have our given name, mother, father, wife, husband, titles, Mr., Mrs., Ms., and nicknames. Each name defines a piece of who we are.
When God told Joseph in a dream to go to Galilee, He set in motion one of the titles of Jesus. He would be called a Nazarene.
A Nazarene is more than the place a person resides, it’s also what he is, a Nazarite, a person who separates himself to God.
Numbers 6:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD:
3 He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.
4 All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk.
5 All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separates himself unto the LORD, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.
6 All the days that he separates himself unto the LORD he shall come at no dead body.
7 He shall not make himself unclean for his father, or for his mother, for his brother, or for his sister, when they die: because the consecration of his God is upon his head.
8 All the days of his separation he is holy unto the LORD.
Jesus was a true Nazarite. He fulfilled every point of a Nazarite from the day of His birth to the day He died. When He was on the cross, Jesus proclaimed to the world, “It is finished.” He fulfilled His Nazarite vow of separation to God. His purpose was your salvation.
As Christians, you made a vow to separate yourself to God. You committed to trust Him and be faithful to Him. It’s not easy. Satan knows your downfalls and tempts you and does everything he can to turn away from your faith. He starts by bringing doubt about your salvation. Doubt leaves your Bible unread. Doubt keeps you from church. Doubt questions your worthiness to call yourself a Christian.
You aren’t worthy. None of us are. However, Jesus made you worthy on the cross. His separation makes you worthy. When Jesus proclaimed for the world to hear, ‘It is finished’, He dashed all Satan’s claims to the ground. When you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, He separated you to Himself and covered you with His righteousness so you could stand worthy before God.
Romans 3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them who believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him who believes in Jesus.
When Satan tries to bring doubt your way, tell him to get lost because Jesus made you worthy through His separation.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for making me worthy through Jesus’ separation to You alone. Let me tell Satan whose I am because of my separation to Jesus Christ through His blood on the cross. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
