I was lucky to get the ARC of Carrie Ann Ryan's newest book, From Spirit and Binding.
This is the third book in her Fantasy series, The Elements of Five. I had to re-read the first two, From Breath and Ruin as well as From Ash and Flame, before reading this one. Can't forget anything that's happened so far lol.
If you haven't read the first two, definitely do NOT read this one. You need to read these in order unlike some of her other series where you can read whatever book you want and can still pretty much understand what's going on.
Lyric was always mediocre at things. She never really fit in and all the usual questions teens need to answer like, what do you want to do with your life?, were mysteries to her.
Lyric found what could be her place in the Maison realm. It's a realm that parallel with the human one. Carrie Ann explains it better in the first book and she reminds people lightly in the second book as well as this one.
Things are starting to heat up in the Maison realm. She's learning how to use her unlocked weilding powers and trying to figure out the prophecy she's supposed to fulfill...somehow.
It's all so confusing and there's no way to really know if what they're doing is the right thing or if it will make things work.
With everything so chaotic right now, she's also found her soul mate even though he says he can't love her in return. Not doesn't but can't. It's a phrase I picked up on and kept hoping there was a valid reason behind it.
Hint: There is!!
So much happens in this one and it's just one long adventure. You will never get bored. If you don't like cliffhangers though, wait for the next book to come out before getting this one. The end drove me nuts and I'm not so patiently waiting for the next one.
I know that I didn't explain a lot but this ins one series that you need to read in order and just experience it as you go along.
I can say that it is adventurous, a little love triangle and a big bad that you can't figure out. Not to mention the prophecy. I wrote it down and while reading, I was trying to figure it out. I'm still not sure about it lol but I'm having fun puzzling it out.
I read everything Carrie Ann Ryan puts out and I've been just gobbling up this series as it comes out.
If you haven't started it yet...why haven't you lol

@JordanLader Wow, she does sound like a lovely lady, so good for you! I'll have to search Amazon for her books - I hope she's on there. I have received some romance ARCs in the past but while the authors urged me to give my honest opinion, some didn't quite dig it LOL

@Lushlala I've noticed that with some authors. I think it was Gena Showalter's assistant that said there's a fine line between criticism and bashing.

She is a very caring author. She actually signed me up when my husband was laid off of work and I couldn't afford her books. If you ever get the chance to meet her, she's just a person you can't help but love.
Her books are awesome. I would say quick reads with good plot and a lot of humor.

Carrie Ann uses book funnel. I've found there's a few authors that use that. I have heard of net galley though. Maybe it depends on the publisher?

@JordanLader I've heard of Book Funnel. I've did read an e-arc from them once. But that was an invite from an author via her Facebook street team. Maybe so.

@KristenH If you follow authors on Facebook or twitter most will put up for a sign up for arcs. I know Helen Hardt does and I've seen one from Rachel Van Dyken. Facebook is wonderful lol
