A Hoodie for Digger

Yesterday, we had a friend and his eight-year-old son visit for a late lunch. The lad was playing in a junior golf tournament. As the next match was quite close by, they ended up staying the night. Last time they stayed the night, Levi was only four. While they were with us, I crocheted a sleeveless jerkin for the boy’s doll. This time, I let him choose a beanie from the 79 premature baby beanies that I have here. He asked ‘did I still crochet’ then ‘did I have any wool’. His next question was could I make Digger his dog a coat. So between 3 and 10pm, I crocheted a coat for Digger. Once I was done, I had enough wool to give the coat a hood so now Digger has a hoodie. I made the pattern up as I went along. This isn’t hard to do with crocheting but a bit more tricky with knitting. What do you think?

Well, he asked for a coat and showed me one on his iPad so it was just a matter of getting to and doing it. It's quite easy with crochet. Very easy to undo if it's not quite right.

Thanks. It was lucky that I had two balls of the same colour. It used just a little more than a 20 gram ball.

@LadyDuck I thought I was over crocheting too but then someone suggested the prem beanies. I must admit I like having something that I can pick up and do a few rows if I have nothing else to do.

@paigea I can just about do this in my sleep. Complicated patterns would be different but it was just the two men and the young lad so I just kept plugging away.

I started about 3pm and the three of them were playing cornhole toss and taking portrait photos of each other as we had the studio lights set up in the lounge. Then we sat by the fire talking so I had quite a bit of time really.

With crochet, it's much easier to make it up as you go along. Not nearly as complicated as knitting without a pattern.
