Day 345
Promise 424
Matthew 3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
People play important roles in our lives. We want people to be trustworthy. We don’t want to associate with people who will take us down the wrong path.
Matthew showed John was such a person, trustworthy, and someone with a purpose, God’s purpose. He told his countrymen John was the fulfillment of God’s promise to send a person to prepare the way for the Messiah.
Isaiah 40:3 The voice of him who cries in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
John prepared the people for Jesus. He told them what kind of person Jesus would be and He would be their Messiah.
As Christians, you look for proof of God working in the lives of the people you associate with. You align yourselves with people whose purpose is to spread the gospel.
John was such a person. He preached about the kingdom of God that would soon be upon them. People wanted to know God hadn’t forgotten them and would send their Messiah soon.
We want to know God hasn’t forgotten us as we look to people who preach and teach the Word of God. We study the Scriptures so we know the person God puts in our path is the person who will lead us in the way we should go.
Do you know the person you follow is teaching and preaching God’s Word? Can you search God’s Word and see that what the person preaches lines up with God’s Word?
Let’s pray: Father, lead me to the person who teaches and preaches the inerrant Word of God. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
