Does brushing too long have bad effects on teeth?

I've read that brushing only takes about 3 minutes. but I brushed my teeth for about 10 minutes. Why? because if it's only 3 minutes I feel my teeth are still not clean enough. Will it adversely affect my teeth or gums? I dont know. How about you? How long do you brush your teeth?

It should not harm the gums
They are soft and brush is hard.

Yes, it is true. I use a soft toothbrush to prevent gum damage
