Little News about Chicago

So I just read a little news story and it got me thinking. So the story is out of Chicago and how things are going there. This time it's not about the endless killings everyday but more about letting mobs make the rules. Let me get to the point. In the early hours this morning the city removed two statues of Columbus. Now you all might wonder did the city do this or the rioters? Another city that is getting statues torn down. So the Democrat Mayor of Chicago decided that the statues should be taken down. Why is it she thought this was a good idea? Why is it we are trying to erase history? Well lets see what she had to say. “in response to demonstrations that became unsafe for both protesters and police, as well as efforts by individuals to independently pull the Grant Park statue down in an extremely dangerous manner.” So if we don't like something we just riot, tear things down, loot and burn building and basically make things unsafe for everyone and then we get what we want. Is this really the message we want to send to these rioters? They can do what ever they want and then they will get their way. I really think this is a bad way to deal with it. Maybe, we need to stand up to these people not bend over for them. Is this what we have become? I love the song The Mob Rules but I don't want to live in a country where it actually happens.

I think it is wrong to take down statues and memorials.

You can't pretend that history didn't happen. That is not how you make things better.

Those who tear down the statues are trying to erase history so the youth won't be able to learn about real history. It sounds like the Taliban. They destroyed historical monuments.

You can not do that. We learn from our past good or bad we can't pretend like things never happened.

Scary things have been happening, aside from Karens, Darens or Kevins, whom I hope were not let out of the mental hospitals to add to the things happening on the streets. As you said, when mobs take over, what will become of America. History is history but then again, when people don't even know what's right or wrong, when people get to make wrong right and the right to be wrong, that's how America will definitely fall. Countries all over the world are looking at America since the pandemic and now they are also getting entertained with the Karens, Kevins, Darens too. What has become of America, it's not as great as it use to be :-( I don't know.

I think things are falling apart and that has a lot to do with those who are supposed to be in charge. They can't allow these mobs of people to run our country and that is what they are starting to do.

I find any statue of Columbus or the Conquistadors offensive but there are better ways to get a problem solved than to make it dangerous for the public. Both statues honor men who were murderers and rapists and it's a slight against Native Americans

I agree with you @Bensen32 It's like forcing all southern states to remove statues that blacks find offensive instead of requesting that they add the story of that person before the civil war. In fact I'm surprised no one has tried to get those faces carved into Mount Rushmore removed, none of those presidents ever lifted a finger on behalf of the Native Americans.

I guess I can see how they might be offensive to some people. My real issue is that erasing history is not the answer. Tearing things down and not going through the process the legal way is not the answer and the government letting them do it this way is not good at all.

I guess we the "mob" have decided that it is in our best interests to just erase any history that we don't like or doesn't fit our personal agenda. What people don't realize is, if you forget history, you tend to repeat it. Yes, some of these statues represent bad times in our country's history, but they serve as a reminder of things we don't want to repeat in the future. If you erase that history, we'll forget about it, and then next thing you know we are repeating some of those evils again in the future.

@Bensen32 But dude, don't you know that is the easy way out? Just stick your head in the sand and pretend it didn't happen.

Exactly, That is not how you solve problems, by pretending they didn't happen.
