I still remember my religion teacher when she answered this question. According to her, God answered prayers by listening and talking with Him. It is in our hearts that God lives. Is she right with this matter? How will you know that your prayers are being answered by God? Image Credit: aleteia.org/wp-content

I believe God listens to all our prayers, but He might not grant us our prayers because His plans are what's best for us.

That is a very interesting question! In the Bible, we are encouraged to pray and tell and ask God anything we want. However, our prayers should be in accordance with accurate knowledge and his will in matters. For example, if we prayed to God to win the lottery, should we expect that God will answer that prayer? No, God does not answer those kind of prayers. Anything that we ask God that is valid, God will answer according to his will and in his own way and time. We can be assured that God loves dearly those who are sincere, honest and humble and God will always be there for them.

I do think that God has plans for every one of us. It is not always be answered if we aspire too much for God to give.

Mother Teresa
Not exactly. Our prayers aren't 'getting God's attention'; we already have God's attention, and prayers are more like 'our answer to the latest part of God's message.' Mother Teresa put it this way: the interviewer asked her, "What do you say to God when you pray?" She replied, "I don't say anything; I just listen." The reporter responded, "Oh? And what does God say?" "Nothing; He just listens---and if you don't understand that, then you don't understand Prayer." My understanding of that ... I think of Romans 2:11 or Colossians 3:25, which both say 'God has no respect for individuals, or does not show favoritism.' That makes me think that God doesn't so-much 'give us the answer' as he 'puts the answer out there and lets us find it (by thinking more like God).' Putting it another way: Romans 8:26 tells us "the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans." The words we pray are more like 'trying to explain our current feelings TO OURSELVES. Maybe it's not coming through clear; because I'm hearing all sorts of things--different ways of looking at the same thing--but maybe it sounds like I'm looking at different things. I also think of Sister "Commander Kellie" Copeland put it when talking about "when you tell your children to behave in a certain way, and they ask you 'why?" She says that you should respond, "Why do you think you should behave that way?" Why does that advice come up? Because that's generally how God answers prayers ... sorta. When you are hoping for a gift-from-God, his answer is generally 'something you should do to-go & get it or -be ready to take it. Knowing 'why you will get what you need, where & when & how you'll get it, from whom, with whom' lays out the path you have to walk.

Prayers can be answered in three ways: Yes,no,and wait. Prayers will be answered depends on your faith and what your asking for.
