Found Some Treasures Today

Was cleaning out some boxes earlier today. Found some of Dustin's old football cards. He had a huge collection. Yes I have them all. Many were put alphabetically into notebooks, he was very funny about his cards. But the graded ones (in a plastic case) were in a separate spot in his room. Those are the ones I looked at today. Well, some of them. I did like he used to do. Went on Ebay to see what they are selling for and got an estimate of what they are worth. Brings back so many memories. I would do this with him often. And he had a catalog that showed the value of the cards as well. I found two of his cards worth $20.00 each. He would have been so excited. Usually they were worth $1. or more. But $20.00 would have been a lot to him. I blurred the names on the cards, trying to keep his privacy. Because that is what Moms do, right. I cannot part with these. Not yet. Back into the box they went for another day.

That takes me back. We have some of our son's hockey and baseball cards here still. And like Dustin, he had a Beckett book so that he knew the value of his cards.

@CarolDM Our son loved his cards also, we have binders full of those plastic holders still. He also loved pokemon cards and when he was young he collected pogs. I see a 49'er card there, our son follows that team.

Those are worth more than money. Our boys have collections of football, baseball, comics, and limited edition TV Guide covers. Guess who is storing them?

When we cleaned out a storage building, everyone had several boxes of stuff, but our grown granddaughter had eleven boxes! When she wanted to save something as a child, she would give it to me to keep because she knew her mama wouldn't! The pack rat gene skipped my daughter.

I know that was bittersweet, but special memories for you. I think having things that belonged to someone we lost makes us feel a little closer to them.

I was surprised when I opened the box. It has his name but I wasn't sure what was in it. Gotta take a break for now.

Keeping those cards might help you keep Dustin's memory alive. I don't blame you for wanting to hold onto them.

I told my 'heirs' I got rid of all my treasures in the early 2000s on ebay and spent the money on myself!! I had 500 books that dragged around with me for decades plus CDs, Playbills, hippos (don't ask!), etc. Now I have just what I need for day to day! I read they just sold a basketball player card for $1.2 million!!

Those mementos are worth more than the price that you quoted. You probably cannot sell that.

You were right to hold on to those and not part with them. Somewhere, I have boxes full of old baseball cards. I used to get the Beckett's catalogue and go through them card by card looking at the value. Those were fun times. Back in the 70s, I used to collect football cards. I wish I would have held on to all of them. I even had Star Wars trading cards when the movie came out in 1977. Wish I would have saved those as well. Most of my current collection of cards are from the 80s, with some from the early 90s.

I wouldn't want to part with them either. My son used to collect them also and had a big notebook full of them as well. I don't know if he still has them. He also had a collection of matchbox cars.
