Snakehead fish are usually found in lakes, swamps, rivers, and water channels to the rice fields. This fish preys on a variety of small fish, insects, and various other aquatic animals including tadpoles and frogs.
Snakehead fish are often flooded into gutters around the house, or enter fish-raising ponds and become pests that prey on domestic fish there. If the rice fields, ponds or trenches dry out, the fish will try to move to another place, or if forced to, bury themselves in the mud until the place returns to water. Therefore, these fish are often found 'walking' on land, especially at night in the dry season, looking for other places that are still runny.
In Indonesia, we cook this this by frying it or other delicacy

We have that here. We call it mudfish. That was our usual meal when I was not schooling yet, that was the time we lived near a swampy area that are full of fish.

@nawala123 my eldest brother learned how to fish the mudfish, he was in 6th grade at that time and I was about 4 or 5. He uses bamboo sticks with barbed hook and worms as bait. The swamp is just knee-high so it is not dangerous.

Looks like these snake head fish have lungs to breath like other land animals. Else it would have been impossible to survive outside water.

@nawala123 yes it's a fish but it also has lungs like secundary organs by which they can survive by breathing air directly when out of water or when there is less oxygen in the muddy water

@LadyDuck this fish is carnivore and very active. Many anglers like fish it because of pf the strike sensation
