I Had To Look Twice

Good morning everyone! I hope you are having a good day so far. Yesterday we had rain all day. Not just rain but heavy rain. It was much needed but was a pain for my brother having to drive me to the dentist. I had my impressions done once again. But the poor tech had to do them twice as the first one didn't come out right. It felt like my mouth was being torn apart because my mouth is so small and the mold was too big. It was a little better once she found the right size.
The picture above is from Pixabay and is very similar to the squirrel I saw a couple of days ago. I was out on the balcony when something caught my eye. I had to look twice. A squirrel was digging in the dried mulch and then rolling around and playing in the mulch like a dog does. It was rolling on it's back and stomach then, it would dig again and roll around some more. It was still playing when I went inside. I have never ever seen a squirrel do this before.
It was raining a little when I went out on the balcony earlier this morning. I'm not sure if we are supposed to have rain again today or not. I have laundry to do today as I wash clothes twice a week now so it's not so hard on me. I'm not sure yet what else I will be doing. What about you? Do you have anything to do today? How's your weather? Are you enjoying some much needed rain also?

@marlina It's also possible that the German Embassy would have given them a passport but that Canada didn't accept those. I wonder why they were denied entry. Because of their colour? Wouldn't that be racism? I thought Canada was free of this (in contrast to the neighbouring country south of the border). :-)

It would have been great if you had taken a video of that squirrel doing his antics.

It's possible the squirrel was playing, but it's also possible it was trying to relieve an itch on its body somewhere. I can't remember the name of it, but there is a certain fly that will lay its eggs under the squirrel's skin, and then it drives them crazy. I remember because there was an outbreak of that about 10 years ago here. You could see squirrels all over the place rolling around in the roads trying to relieve the itching from those flies. I hope that's not the case with the squirrel you saw. Maybe it was just fleas, or maybe it really was playing.

Yes, it really could be any number of things making it roll around in the mulch. It looked like it was enjoying itself so if it was an itch, the rolling around must have felt good. I hope the fly thing wasn't the case with this little one. It sounds like the poor things would be miserable.

@moffittjc That sounds like a good theory to me. It's funny but just now I remembered something about my Dad from when I was a child. He used to like exotic animals. At one time he had a huge cage he had built that had two flying squirrels in it. As a kid, I thought they were pretty cool. Now as an adult, I would be against caging them and would want them free. He also had a tarantula in a small aquarium.

@simone10 Usually if it's the flies, you will notice a lot of squirrels infected, not just one. So it's probably safe to say this particular squirrel was just enjoying relief from an itch. At least that's my theory.

This is the first time I have ever seen a squirrel do that and I watch them all the time. You are right, a woman's work is never done. I used to think this a lot when my kids were young. They would be in bed and I would be up trying to catch up since I worked during the day.

That must have hurt you and not doing once but twice. I have never seen a squirrel do that. That must have been something to watch. it is summer here. I am working as hard as I can to make as much as I can because this is the last day of the month. I will be off the computer and no work tomorrow and sitting on the porch with my cat. We have our rain in the winter so no rain now.

I hope your hard work on the last day of the month paid off for you. I also hope you enjoyed your day away from the computer and your time with your kitty.
It is uncomfortable when they put the mold in my mouth but I got through it okay. It was really fun to watch the squirrel. He/she was having a good time.

Nothing special planned for today. Weather will be in the 70s next week with rain just about every day. The cooler temps will be nice.

@LindaOHio I'm sorry about the humidity. The cooler temps don't help much if the humidity is still high.

Maybe he was trying to get cool? I had a busy day, dealing with friend and his little dog, picking up my car after inspection, going shopping at DG and cooking two meals. We also cut some greenery and little trees in the back.

Going to the dentist is never a fun experience and I know what you mean about having to do those impressions. Yuck
