Another yummy breakfast from rice flour.....

And that was my breakfast for today. It's called idiyappam and is a very popular dish of Kerala, another southern state of India. We make noodles out of rice flour and then steam it. So here we get these noodles steamed cake. I learnt this dish from my neighbor a few years back who comes from state of Kerala. My children love this with coconut milk and a little sugar. They also at times enjoy it with hot ghee and sugar. Today we had it with coconut chutney and veg kurma. Veg kurma is a spicy curry using a handful of mixed vegetables like carrot, beans, potato, onion and peas. We add grated coconut and tamarind pulp to the curry along with other spices and seasoning. So it was yummy and filling breakfast for the day. I have veggie kurma left and I will use it for lunch. Will just make some hot chappatis( Indian bread). The dough for chappati is ready and kept in fridge. We will have curd, lemon and green chilli pickle and onion, cucumber and beetroot salad as side dish. I have half an hour break to be here. I am sipping my buttermilk and mylotting. My next class starts in amother half an hour. I just hope that I don't face any error here. Yesterday I could not do much here when I had time at hand due to the annoying error popping up. Have a great time. Enjoy mylotting. Hope the error is not troubling you. Picture is of my breakfast today.. It's from my friend as I could not upload one from my phone here. This was in my photo album since a long time.

@amitkokiladitya It is in idli shape as I steamed it in idli stand. It is like bland noodles. If you have sweet tooth you can have it with ghee and sugar or coconut milk. Some like it with a little bland and sweet kurma with coconut milk. However, I and my husband have it with spicy kurma and super spicy chutney.

When you say rice flour, do you grind it yourself or you just buy the flour in the market?

@arunima25 when we need rice powder we buy it from the market because we have no grinder.

It is my most favourite dish. I make it at home too. I like it better with the spicy kurma than the coconut milk.

I and husband prefer it with spicy kurma but my daughters end the Iast one on their plate with sugar. I even like vegetable kurma with chapatti too. I am looking forward to my lunch today.

@arunima25 Yes, veg kurna goes well with all kinds of flatbread so it's not only yummy but quite flexible as a side dish. Some people make the Kerala style veg stew which is white in colour as it is prepared using coconut milk. That one is a little less spicy than the regular veg kurma.

It is actually a bland steamed rice noodles. The actually taste comes from the side dishes. You can have it with coconut milk and sugar if you like it sweet or have it with spicy veg kurma curry if you like spicy. I have it with spicy kurma.

@arunima25 India is such a big country. Italy is small, but we do not have the same food in the north and in the south, I am still discovering some southern recipes.

Even for people in North India, it might be an alien thing that are unaware of. It is a local dish of state of Kerala. I tasted it at my friend's house and just loved it. I learnt it from her and mastered it with practise.

Even many Indians will not know it. I tasted it a few years back. It is a local dish of Kerala and others out of state of Kerala might not be aware of this delicacy.

I steamed it in idli stand and so it is shaped like idli. I like it with spicy chutney and kurma. But some people prefer it sweet with ghee and sugar or a kurma that is bit sweet wtih added coconut milk.

It is delicious and healthy. The actual taste depends on the side dish. As such these are bland steamed rice noodle.
