Have You Every Heard Of Mask Mouth?

I saw this on television yesterday and it was interesting enough to share (I think) since I hadn't heard of mask mouth before. Since we're all wearing masks these days it's now found that it not only causes some pretty bad breath but also other factors. Dentists say that patients are showing signs of decaying teeth, receding gums and seriously stinky breath. Dentists have given us the new term "mask mouth" Since some people are wearing masks for hours at a time and not drinking enough masks are causing dehydration which is causing bacteria to form in the mouth. As I said, I hadn't heard of this before but it certainly was food for thought. I don't wear a mask often but members of my family do wear them at work and for hours at a time. I told them about this "mask mouth" and they hadn't heard of it before either. Going to the dentist is never fun so if you have to wear a mask please be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day. That's my public service announcement for today

I am a bit perplexed... how is it that surgeons and nurses who wear mask all the day from ages never had this problem? I suppose those are rumors spread by the "anti mask" gang.

maybe they make sure they remove the mask and drink water throughout the day (even before Covid). Of course you could be right that it's the anti mask gang spreading these rumors.

@Marilynda1225 My brother is a doctor, a surgeon, some surgeries last hours and of course they cannot stop, remove their mask and drink water. He never suffered of bad breath and at the age of 65 he has all his teeth and no cavities at all.

I would also suggest bringing mouth wash to work and using it on breaks. This way bacteria is washed away. I hadn't heard of this either but I can believe it.

I haven't heard that term, but I imagine that may happen to those who need to wear masks for hours at a time.

That's a new one on me. I generally stay home so I don't have to wear masks that often ..... drinking plenty of water is always a really good idea.

I think that somme of that would have to do with the months of lockdown when people were not able to go to their dentists for regular cleaning. I have seen people alone in their vehicles driving and wearing a mask, and I question that. I only wear mine when I am out, as it is mandatory in public places. The bottom line is to wash our hands, brush our teeth, go to our dentists, and wear our PPE.

I've not heard of this either but it sure makes sense. My brother has to wear one all day when he is out of town. I'm going to mention this to him.
