Why are chicken thighs packaged skin side down?

I always buy chicken thighs with the skin on because that's the best part of the chicken. Last week I asked hubby to get me some and to make sure they were with the skin on. He told me they didn't have any. Every package he looked at was skinless. That could not be possible. The store always has them with the skin. Turns out he had no idea that they place the chicken thighs in the tray with the skin side down, so you don't really see it. I realized that when I went shopping with him yesterday and we were looking for chicken thighs. He asked me why they package the chicken thighs skin side down. I told him I have no idea. Why do they do that?

It is obvious that your husband is not used to shopping for food items, waheehee.

I was surprised to hear he had no idea they sell them with the skin side down. We've bought them endless times.

@lovebuglena your husband may not be looking at the chicken. Sometimes I am also like that, no need to inspect the details.

@Alexandoy He reads the labels. If it is skinless it says so on the labels. The ones with the thighs skin side down do not say skinless so that should tell him this is what he needs to get. But it's good that he did not get the thighs that time because if he would have brought them home and I saw that there was no skin I wouldn't be thrilled. I gotta have my skin.

I have no idea, they place the skin up here because you can buy with or without skin, so you must know what you pick up.

@lovebuglena I do not believe they want to "hide" the skin for some unknown reason.

This is in my Russian grocery store. I don't remember if other stores do that. But to me it is weird. There doesn't seem to be a reason to do that, unless maybe with the skin side down it is easier to tell it is chicken thighs.

I have no idea unless they want you to be able to see the meat. Have a great day.

That could be it. Or maybe with the skin side up you can't tell it's a chicken thigh. That is in my Russian grocery store. Can't remember if other stores do that.
