The Lessons they Taught Me

Children have a way of teaching us when we think we are teaching them. We learn from them just as they learn from us. Children, especially young children, don’t judge on differences, often times they don’t even see them, but they do pick up how we react to a situation so if they see us, acting differently because someone has to walk, or talk a little differently, because they don’t fit in a neat little box, but if they see us embracing differences they will do the same. I’ve worked with Children from the time I was a teen, and I’ve learned a lot from them, taking care of a little girl with a fatal heart condition when I was sixteen taught me, how fragile life was, working with a disabled young boy named Adam who required constant care, showed me you did not need words to speak, the most powerful messages came from the heart. I’ve worked with kids in home, school, and Church Settings and the children each with their unique personalities, and some with difficulties that no child should go through, we fee them both physically and spiritually and in turn they opened up, they reached out, and started believing In themselves, teaching me that the most powerful lessons didn’t come in books, they came through compassion.
