First time dining out in NYC

I was craving some sushi so hubby and I went out to a Japanese restaurant. It was our first time dining there. We were eating outdoors as indoor dining is not allowed in NYC. The weather was actually nice and cool, as opposed to hot and humid, so it was pleasant dining outside.
I cannot say I was wowed by the sushi we ordered but it was not bad at all. I'd go back there again and try other stuff. There are other things on the sushi menu and dishes other than sushi I'd try.
There were a few other tables occupied by diners when we were at the restaurant but the place was not packed. The place next door,—an Italian restaurant—which was also new, was packed. There were even people waiting for a table. And there was loud music heard. That placed seemed alive while ours seemed rather dead.
According to our waitress—who asked us to spread word about the Japanese restaurant to others—the restaurant is fairly new so not many know about it yet. How come the Italian restaurant that opened later than them seems to be well known and popular? Perhaps it's the marketing.

@lovebuglena That's true. Perhaps it will take time since this is a new restaurant.

That could be the case but usually when I go to Japanese restaurants there are always many people there. Sometimes, the places are even packed to the fullest.

I think it may also have a lot to do with the type of food that the restaurant is serving. I would think that an Italian restaurant would be noticeably busier than a sushi restaurant, even though sushi is pretty popular right now. But Italian is entrenched in our culture now, and just about everybody likes Italian food. Not everyone likes sushi.

@lovebuglena I hope you get the chance to go to the Italian restaurant near your home! I'm sure it's going to be delicious!

It was sushi and hibachi and of course standard Japanese dishes like teriyaki, katsu, etc.

Now I wanna go to that Italian restaurant. Hubby went to it but a different location. I want to go to this one as it is closer to home and seems like a bigger place than the one in Brooklyn.

It was great because the weather was nice and cool. I hate dining outdoors when it is hot and humid and the sun is bright.

It depends on the foods the restaurant is serving that eventually attract the customers.

Japanese restaurants are just as popular as Italian ones. Perhaps the Italian one is doing more to promote itself. And also word of mouth is very helpful.

It could be the marketing or maybe it's just that Italian food is more popular than Japanese.

Maybe the Italian restaurant is doing more marketing and promotion than the Japanese restaurant.

There are many Italians in NYC but I doubt that is the reason the place is super busy.
