Game of Characters

So, I thought, instead of doing my usual review, I would do my favorite characters from "Game of Thrones". This is my first time watching it - and I'm well into Season 4.
Typically - I like to watch series after they are done - so I can binge watch :-)
So, one of the first things I noticed about "Game of Thrones" is that there are ALOT of characters whose relationships all intertwine. The first episode or 2 I was concerned about keeping them all separate, but the show, happily is designed that there are strong visual themes that separate each group of people, and each group of people are usually seen in different settings.
Joffrey - What a horrible character. Even from early on, we can see what kind of boy Joffrey is, not being able to play well with others and always having to win. No surprise that he grows into a psychopath and gets handed the crown. In reality he's nothing other than a spoiled brat who has fallen into absolute power.
Arya - What an admirable little princess. Instead of liking dresses and embroidery she longs to learn swordsmanship. It serves her well as she's on the run and survives with some street smarts and her sword skills. Unlike her sister -
Sansa - (always strikes me as a funny name, name of office supply brand, isn't it?) Sansa I started out not liking. She's fairly rude and for the first little bit , even after seeing what Joffrey was still insists on being in love with him. It reminds me a bit of anyone in an abusive relationship who, when it is pointed out can only counter with "but I love him". However Sansa is emotionally tortured more than a lot of the characters which is too bad, but helped develop her into a more down to earth character.
Tyrion Lannister - Upfront Tyrion is slightly vulgar - enjoying drink and the houses of ill-repute entirely too much. But under that he is one of the more decent characters. He sticks to his word for the most part, takes the side of the underdog and actually cares about people in spite of being a member of the ruling class and coming from a more or less corrupt family. Portrayed expertly by Peter Dinklage (the actor who was the children's book writer in the movie "Elf" with Will Farrell)
Cersei and Jamie Lannister - Brother and sister both to each other and to Tyrion. Listed as a couple, because... they have a uniquely twisted relationship. Cersei at first seems quiet and charming , but appearances deceive. Jamie starts off as wholly unlikable but we come to see a side of him that hints at something with a bit of compassion.
Theon Greyjoy/Reek - A totally unlikable character - rude crude and arrogant he didn't mind selling out those closest to him. Though even that said, he almost, almost got too much punishment undergoing his transformation to Reek.
Varys - Softspoken and soft mannered this former slave has made gossip his trade.
Daenerys - Perhaps one of the more interesting characters, Daenerys was traded off in marriage by her brother to Kahl Drogo (played by Jason Momoa) , she overcomes the difficulties of being forced into marriage to a vicious tribe and earns the respect of many people, forming herself an army, hatching dragon's eggs and freeing slaves she seems to be a gentle but firm ruler who actually cares about those under her care, but I think there is more than meets the eye with this character and who knows maybe we will see big changes within her.
There are so many more, but those are the ones I find particularly interesting.
While there is more violence in this show than I thought there might be (wow, I guess they had some brutal torture methods in the middle ages) - long fight scenes bore me and there are more than a couple of those so far, explicit scenes (those are made better by the fact that someone usually gets rescued) and even the gross factor of the interfamilial romances (wow was that more of an issue back at that time?) this show has more than enough in it it keep me fascinated as 9 families all fight it out for control of the throne.
Any "Game of Thrones" fans here?

A great series which went on maybe a season too long. You definitely captured the characters perfectly in your descriptions. I liked Hodor and Ser Jorah Mormont who was the loyal protector of Daenerys. Many terrific cast of characters both good and evil.

THanks! It was fun writing this. Right now I'm just into Season 8. Definitely tired of lengthy battles scenes. Aw Hodor - that was so sad. Ser Jorah I always sort of wished would end up with Daenerys.
