The way I know this snack is by watching the cartoon series doraemon . In that they called it dora cake but more or less it's the same thing . It's basically a pan cake on both sides with either red bean paste or chocolate filling inside it . I have heard it's very popular in Japan .I have never eaten it but would love to give it a try . Looks delicious Have you eaten this before ?

You know who Doraemon is! Yes, I've had dorayaki many times, but I am Japanese (born and raised in the US though). But only the traditional red bean paste . . . I don't think I'd be into a chocolate filling one (neither would my parents). We can buy it here in our Asian markets!

@KityCat Oh those filling flavors are TOTALLY different. Most everyone knows what chocolate is . . . but traditionally there would not be chocolate in this. I don't know how to really describe the red bean paste . . . it is mashed cooked red azuki beans with sugar in it . . . very sweet - not creamy like chocolate. Hmmm, maybe I can try to make them (I don't make these kinds of Japanese snacks . . . I usually buy them and so does my mom ).

That's good to know you have had it before . So what's the difference between red bean paste and the chocolate versions of it ?
