"Why Do We Need to BLOCK Someone?"

Since we are on a discussion site, it is inevitable to express one's opinions that are contradicting to others' beliefs. That's the idea of having a discussion. I was blocked with some myLotters, but I do not mind at all. I am just being me and it is not my cup of tea to patronize anyone.

The 'Block' feature was introduced in 2013 (I believe, though @myklj999 will correct me if I'm wrong!) to provide a means of temporarily stopping someone from real harassment until Admin could deal with them. I believe that it is being misused and, in fact, is not very functional because the person blocked can still see posts by the blocker but cannot reply and the blocker can still post on the discussions of the person they have blocked but the blocked person cannot see the responses (unless they log out and view the discussion as an 'outsider'. It is also all too easy to block someone (especially if using a small screen device like a smart phone) by mistake because there is no confirmatory popup - "Are you sure you mean to do this?" - when you hit the 'Block' button.
Either the 'block' feature needs to be rewritten or it should be removed altogether, in my view.

@owlwings You described it well. I personally think this feature is useless. I noticed that blockers are feeling powerful. I just think that they are coward people who cannot accept the real facts of life in the real world.
If ever it was mistakenly done, I do not want to call his or her attention while he or she blocked me. I will just let him or her figure it out. Most likely it is deliberately done.

@myklj999 either it was accidental if she's using a phone or she forgot or she didn't recognize you because of your avatar

I have wrote posts about it, the only reason to block someone is if they are harassing you and that did happen to me, but otherwise I would never block anyone on a silly thing like they see the world a different way. It serves no purpose because how do you even know what you are up against if they are your so called enemy?

@crossbones27 Indeed. There is no reason to block someone just because he or she contradicts my statement. That's not a healthy thing to do.

I agree with @crossbones27 No need to block people. If they are against rules you can report them.

I always try to think this way. Why will I block someone? What if they blocked us without any reason? @crossbones27

We express our thoughts and opinion, we are expected to receive likeness and dislike.
Therefore, blocking a person may not be necessary unless they are harassing or bullying, defaming, trolling badly

I've blocked some people. They didn't sound too positive in their reactions and answers to my posts. Fine the first time but after that you just don't want to be bothered especially if you're here to have fun and see interesting posts and comments

If I find the comments in bad taste I just avoid reacting to that person's discussion.

I have never blocked anyone. There are a few people that I don't talk to, but I don't think that I need to block them. I just avoid their discussions. I saw someone who made fun of the way another mylotter writes. It was quickly deleted, but I really didn't like that. I avoid that person, but I don't think that I would block them (unless they start harassing me the same way)

I honestly blocked only one before. She is not active anymore. I cannot deal with how she carries herself here. It is my personal reason why I did it. I never blocked anyone since then. I can still see some myLotters who blocked me here. As I mentioned above, I do not mind at all. They are just chicken people to me.

I agree with you. I haven't blocked anyone, and I don't think I have been blocked ever, but who knows? Thing is sometimes people get so moody when one expresses oneself. That is why somebody is replying to me in a mad way, I just ignore the message and stop replying.

@Shavkat it is so sad. Thank God I haven't experienced it yet, if it happened, I'd just ignore them.
