Divide and Conquer

A little ice hockey news for you. The Dallas Stars said that they have lost some of their season ticket holders due to their support of Black Live Matter movement. They did say they will continue to support the movement. Of course, this made me wonder why? Is this movement a positive movement? I guess that depends on your perspective. So, as I thought about it and wondered why is it we only hear about cops shooting Blacks and rarely hear about them shooting whites. If we only listen to the mainstream media it certainly would seem they only kill blacks. I did a little digging myself to see what I could come up with. I found three sites that gave me numbers of white and blacks killed by cops. Then I looked up the US census for the population of whites and blacks. Then I did a little math to see what it might tell me. The number of people killed goes from January 2017 till June 2020. Whites: 1468 Blacks: 890 Before you say there are more whites in America so that is why it is higher, I decided to look at the population numbers too. Whites: 197,181,177 Blacks: 43,984,096 Yep, that proves there are more whites than blacks. The media loves to remind us that there are only 14.3% of the population that are black. Let’s take a look at this number. If you take a look at the amount killed vs the population what do we come up with? 1,468/197,181,177 = 7.4% 890/43,984,096 = 2.0% I’m mathematician or expert on the population but seems 7.4% of a population is more than 2.0% of a population. I think the movement should be called Life Matters. When you look at the numbers of both races you get 9.7% of those two races were killed by cops over the last 3 and a half years. I’m not trying to put down cops, they have a tough job, one I would not want. If you ask me this is just a way to divide our country. By who and for what reason I can only guess but this little saying comes to mind when I think about it. I believe it was Julius Cesar who first said it. “Divide and Conquer”

There's no question that the media perpetuates the problem by the way they report the "facts." I don't trust anything I see on tv or read about in the papers. It is extremely biased and skewed information designed to instill fear in the population (as well as sell news stories). Divide and conquer is alive and well in this country. I read somewhere one time that in times of fear and uncertainty, media consumption skyrockets, but in good times media consumption plummets. The bottom line is the media is most concerned with their profits, so to maximize the amount of money they rake in, they have to instill fear and panic in the American public.

That is true, the more crazy life gets more people will turn to the media and believe they are getting the true story. But now it is more about spinning the truth to make people come back for more news. So many people just buy into it and don't even take anytime to research it or even question it.

Wow, that's some heavy research. Now I am wondering how many cops (any race) have been killed by blacks, whites, hispanics or asians? I know I really should do this myself but I'm not that good at this kind of research. Another item I came across is that many Native American women are raped, abducted never to be found or murdered and the media never dwells on that and if I am not mistaken Native Americans are the smallest ethnic group in the USA, not counting immigrants

There are a lot of things I would like to look up but they are very time consuming and the information is hard to find sometimes.
