Noodling!

“Noodling” is a sport that is rapidly growing in popularity in most Southern states. Although the practice has been around for centuries among Native Americans, it is the new “to do” challenge for the adventurous. Folks have become so enamored with this activity that they now hold special nooding events where they sponsor contests to see who can “noodle” the biggest catfish. This is the art of catching fish with a special kind of bait. Your HANDS. That’s right! A “fisherman” dives underwater to where catfish are spawning in river/lake-bank holes. Then they run their hand down the fish’s gullet and grab a handful of insides before pulling the fighting creature up to the surface. These fish are extremely strong and put up quite a fight. You can see a good example of that with this little girl in the video. This makes me wonder what folks might do for excitement when this gets old. I would love to watch them noodle for alligators.

Why do they call it noodling? You'd think they would name that catfish grabbing, or something like that . . . noodling to me sounds like cooking a fish pasta !

@much2say I doubt that the catfish really cares what they call it.

@UncleJoe They're ok with it as long as they're not going to end up like a tuna casserole .

I wonder why they call it that. And I was going to say that isn't that the way they used to catch fish back in the much older days.

That is amazing and what a name for it noodling so I guess to do this you have to use your noodle. Personally, I would prefer to canoodle than noodle but to each his or her own

yep you right it's a HELL of a sport to be in if you know what your doing & can take the torture they get from it.
Cody and I tried to take some time this weekend to show y’all what a day on the water looks like for us. We also tried to answer some of the common question ...

Wow! And no thanks, it's certainly not for me. I'd heard the term 'noodling' and I thought it referred to fishing but I didn't know what it really meant. Now I do. Interesting!
