Now I’m Confused

Little Miss no longer wants to go by her given name, and now I’m the one confused. Her given name is a beautiful and unique name, but ugh.
I get it she’s going through something but I don’t know that I like her changing her name.
I’m getting a worse headache just thinking about it.
She’s not yet twelve and hopefully she changes her mind again, because I’m not sure I can call her by the name she wants me too, because it would confuse me lol.

What does she want to go by? Her middle name? I have to tell my 8 yes told we can’t call him by Joe or Joey because both are what his dad goes by which is why I call him JD short for his first and middle name. Yeah when the kids want me to call them by a different name that I have never called them in years it drives me crazy.

@Michellekidwell no big deal. Some people just don’t like there given name. Some times the names we are given isn’t what we feel we are.

@ShyBear88 It’s not just the name change, it’s the whole attitude, like thinking she can get away without doing homework and get rewarded for it...

No, she want to go by an entirely different name.

It is that confusing growing up period. I was lucky I had a second name. When people could not understand my Latvian first name Rasma I used my plain second name Sandra no problems there. I forgot what I was going through but at one time I wanted to color my hair black and call myself Morticia from the Addams Family. My mom almost had a fit or two. Might I ask what her name is and what name does she want to be called?

I wouldn’t mind it if it was just a shortened version of her name, but it’s an entirely different name. I know Shes going through a confusing time and I’m trying to respect that but this is a bit much..l

@Michellekidwell personally I would say she should not be allowed to change her name but perhaps just adopt a nickname.

@RasmaSandra That’s what I think too. At least until she’s older...

I am trying, but somethings I refuse, like rewarding her for not doing homework...

Sorry to hear that she's going through that....I went through that growing up and asked everyone to call me by a different name cause I didn't like my real name.

@Michellekidwell I bet that was confusing, I'm glad my name wasn't really a popular one/ at least back when I was growing up. I still wanted to change it though.
Sorry to hear that you didn't get along with one of them....bullies are never fun! Oh wow....that's awful too, I can imagine the guilt...that would be rough to deal with

I´d ask a child psychologist. Why would she want to "be" someone else?

She's just at that age where life is challenging and she is figuring out who she is. Hopefully she will go back to her real name.

@Michellekidwell That's not good. She could be held back and not move on to the next grade.

If it's just her pet name or nickname there would be no problem but if it's the name on the legal documents there could be complications in the future.

@Michellekidwell wow at her age such a realization and decision. Wonder what else does she want to change? Very amusing and amazing that a kid as young as she is would take that matter seriously.

I'm afraid. It would be the beginning of your great trials to overcome about that Little Miss.
