My Generous Son!

My son is the only one at home who runs errands. This morning, he drove to the city proper to buy sawdust for dog food. He is always aware of the precautionary items he should use when leaving home: face mask, face shield, a bottle of alcohol (70% isopropyl alcohol), and his bag where he puts his wallet and mobile phone. This morning, he came back at 11:30AM (he left at 10AM), and as soon as he was at the garage, he did the usual thing again, sprayed disinfectant at the soles of his shoes, his bag, poured alcohol, and removed his shield (washed it later) and mask. And when he asked my hand( and sister's too) for blessing, he pulled out 2 small plastic bags of garlic. We still have garlic, but his reason made me prouder to him; 'I pity this old woman selling garlic; she does not talk, but reaches out her hand holding the plastic bags of garlic". Most often, he brings home some stuff which are not requested of him to bring home, and I know the reason: my son is generous. he even gives money to sleeping beggars. When I had my check-up last month, I requested him to buy us snacks. It took him an hour to go back to the hospital. When I asked him what took him so long, he said, "Ma, I already bought us our snacks (hamburger for him, hotdog for me, French fries, and soft drinks). When I went out of the food store, I saw this old woman collecting plastic containers from the dumpsite. I went back to the jolly bee and bought her the same snacks that i have". I got misty with what he said. No wonder, he is receiving more from his online work because he gives more to persons he sympathizes with. "It is better to give than to receive."

The most heartwarming story I've read in a long time - a mother's tale of her saintly son. Gosh, I have many friends who boast about their sons' this and that which are all hogwash for me. Your story is what I want to hear from my friends. Needless to say, the fruit comes from the tree. God keep you and your son in the palm of His hands.

@ridingbet That is the essence of our humanity - to lay one's self for another. Glad you have instilled that truth in your son's being by being an example to him. It is all right not to wish going back to work. The pandemia has changed a lot of our views, desires, life styles, and needs. Still we can help by our extending kindness through our thoughts, words, and deeds. I am sure many have learned lessons from your son's generosity. That is a selfless piece you wrote there - sharing your son. Blessings.

thank you. it is indeed valuable to think of others before oneself. i believe it is also inherent in me to think if my colleagues have been given work this pandemic time, after which i give a sigh of relief when they have. i do not wish to go back to work anymore.

You have a good son. He is a blessing to you and to others. BTW, what is sawdust for dog food? I have not heard of it.

sawdust is the 'pinagtabasan' of meat of pigs and cows meat and later on sold as dog food.
