I forgot to tell you something good

Earlier this month we discovered we had a water leak under a sink. Hubby has stopped it. We had some other leaky situations he took care of.
Our water bill has been going up and up for a few months. This month was astonishing, but that is what happens when we have leaks.
He went down to the city offices to pay in person, and the clerk looked at our past bills. She averaged the last four months and adjusted the bill downward, by $165. That pretty much paid for today's grocery shopping.
I probably would have just paid and said nothing. I am glad hubby took care of it.
So that is a bit of good news.

I collect rainwater, too, and use it for my houseplants as well as the garden.

@BarBaraPrz It is even a lot better than tap water for the plants.

i collect rain water...when 't rains. sadly such 'twas not sufficient fer e'en the garden which's all'n large pots. the drought lingers, predicted to grow through winter 'n 'nto the spring.

It feels good to get them paid. Also when they get reduced substantially.

does help to get those leaks fixed. nice they 'djusted such. i'd a massive water leak outdoors 't mamaw's lil house. a pond 'ctually that'd been there fer some time. the hubs paid no mind to such nor the huge jump'n said bill. finally got that fixed via a plumber. the cost 'f such neglect 'twas one thing, the waste 'f precious water really pushed me o'er the edge.

At our previous house they did not read meters in the winter, so spring would be high. However, when it hit $400 the meter reader said we had a leak. It was deep underground, and under a cement slab. Our very good plumber was able to fix it without disrupting the slab.

That is great news and yes, you should not have to pay for leaks that occur.

I wish he had your skills for fixing things. He has stopped the leak but cannot fix the part. I will be hiring a plumber again soon.
