I Have Never Eaten a Candy Apple

Taffy apples are a delicious Halloween treat around here. I love the soft and chewy caramel coating on taffy apples. Candy apples are also Halloween favorites, however, I have never eaten a candy apple. Way back in 1908, one gifted candymaker decided to dip apples into a pot of melted cinnamon candy. The candy hardened around the apple, and the first bite of those first candy apples was like biting into a lollipop. I would think a candy apple would be rather hard on the teeth due to its crunchy exterior. The candy coating for a candy apple is made with sugar, water, some light corn syrup, cinnamon, and a touch of red food coloring. That mixture is stirred while it cooks on the stovetop. When the mixture is nice and hot, apples are dipped into the syrup-like mixture and allowed to dry. . If you are not a fan of cinnamon, you can forgo adding it to your candy-apple mixture. I suppose, to save your precious teeth, you could just lick the candy apple's candy-coating and then eat the apple. Photo: By DaemonDivinus Public Domain

I love candy apples but they are so darn messy. I haven’t had one in many years. The last one I had was covered in chocolate and marshmallows and sprinkles and I didn’t like it. I’ve never heard of a taffy apple before. I love taffy though!

I had eaten a few candy apples as a child and I love them. My favorite however were the caramel apples. I thought of them the other day Deborah and had a longing for them. But I just bought a bag of caramels instead and had to make do with those, poor me. Would you like one?
