I Have Never Eaten a Candy Apple

Taffy apples are a delicious Halloween treat around here. I love the soft and chewy caramel coating on taffy apples. Candy apples are also Halloween favorites, however, I have never eaten a candy apple. Way back in 1908, one gifted candymaker decided to dip apples into a pot of melted cinnamon candy. The candy hardened around the apple, and the first bite of those first candy apples was like biting into a lollipop. I would think a candy apple would be rather hard on the teeth due to its crunchy exterior. The candy coating for a candy apple is made with sugar, water, some light corn syrup, cinnamon, and a touch of red food coloring. That mixture is stirred while it cooks on the stovetop. When the mixture is nice and hot, apples are dipped into the syrup-like mixture and allowed to dry. . If you are not a fan of cinnamon, you can forgo adding it to your candy-apple mixture. I suppose, to save your precious teeth, you could just lick the candy apple's candy-coating and then eat the apple. Photo: By DaemonDivinus Public Domain

the spicy hotness 'f the cinnamon combined with the sweetness'f the apple 'tis really a taste 'xplosion'n ones mouth. 'tis a bit hard'n the teeth though such's not that thick a 'crust'.

I am worried about that candy apple being hard on the teeth. I could just lick the candy part from the apple so as not to lose a filling or break a tooth.

I suppose to save one's teeth, a person could just lick the outside candy shell until it is all gone.

I had one... once. Not a fan of that hard candy coating. I have not, however, ever tried a caramel apple and I love caramel. Just never come across them.

The caramel apples are so good. Some are rolled in chopped peanuts that stick to the caramel. Such a tasty treat.

I use an apple slicer these days and eat the slices. Much easier but more work using that slicer thing than I like to do. I should just eat applesauce.

Hah. You need to experience what my husband used to make. Used to. That apple coating had real butter in it. His coating was truly addictive.

I love candy apples but they are so darn messy. I haven’t had one in many years. The last one I had was covered in chocolate and marshmallows and sprinkles and I didn’t like it. I’ve never heard of a taffy apple before. I love taffy though!

Taffy apples are really since the covering is like eating those wonderful caramel candies that are nice and soft. I might try a candy apple but I would hate to lose a filling eating one of those. I bet they are rather messy.

@Corbin5 I would worry about the taffy with fillings. I have one and it was so painful to have done that I never want to have it come out and go through it again.

I had eaten a few candy apples as a child and I love them. My favorite however were the caramel apples. I thought of them the other day Deborah and had a longing for them. But I just bought a bag of caramels instead and had to make do with those, poor me. Would you like one?
