Grackle Visited the Peanuts Again

Was sitting here staring out the window. And two grackles perched on the deck peanut feeder together.
Got up slowly to get a photo. I managed to get one, the other one flew away.
This one sat in the feeder and crunched the peanuts. I have the patio door open and could hear him eating the peanuts in the feeder.
Usually the birds get the peanuts and fly to the trees to eat.
Grackles are in the black bird family. The purple on their neck shines in the sunshine.

the infamous grackle, beautiful to look 't, a terrorist to other birds. don't reckon i've e'er seen one with this vibrant purple (looks blue to me, lol) though.
that'd be one bonus 'f all the ferals, they've kept the grackles 't bay.

@CarolDM they're sort'a iridescent here'n the sunlight. yes ma'am, we'd'n 'invasion' 'f 'em some years back. lots 'f baby birds found headless'n the ground...most disturbin'. here's a link with some other info 'bout 'em. some can be very hard'n song bird populations.
Among the predictable subjects of calls to this desk each spring and fall are complaints that someone's bird feeder is being "raided" or "taken over" by grackles.

@crazyhorseladycx They shine here in the sun as well. Oh my gosh, this article. I had no idea. I was aware of starlings having this behavior. Thanks for the heads up.

I like that blue band...I have told you what would happen to peanuts around here...although Nico would probably get a kick out of watching the squirrels stuff themselves.!

Watching birds interact can be so much fun. We once watched two birds chase each other around an old picnic table that we had converted into a giant feeder. One was the boss and he wasn't about to let anyone eat first lol!

I've never heard of these birds but they are pretty. It's like to see them shine.

The grackle may be what I heard when I visited Galveston. Loud and obnoxious. I never got to see the bird's beauty. I had fun today. There's a willow tree not far from my front window. It looked like a small bird of prey was out there on one of the willow tree's limbs. It had barred feathers. Maybe a falcon or some such? Right now there is a large bird feeder not far away- the raspberry patch with its ripe fruit.

! Someone in the neighborhood is feeding the squirrels peanuts as we get the shells here. Maybe the grackles are all going over to that neighbor
). Still I don't think we get them in our yard.
