I bet kids don't wax slides anymore

When I was kid growing up in the ancient time of the 1960's and early 70's most bread was wrapped in some variety of wax bag. The plastic bags of today were not as common, or were a smaller component of the wrapper. Some kid one day got the idea to slide down a slide with these wax bread wrappers and it would make the slide really fast. Sometimes they were almost too fast, but it was a lot better than getting stuck on a slide and having to scoot your way down to the bottom. The huge slide at the park about about a block from our house was like that. I don't know why no one ever waxed it. Anyway, my guess in the nanny state, waxing those plastic slides would be considered too dangerous..and the kids are stuck with a slow ride.Do any kids ever wax slides these days? I doubt it!

I was a child in the 60’s and early 70’s too. I don’t recall bread being in wax bags. I just recall plastic. Maybe it depended on where you lived.

I am older than you. It was kind of a wax plastic combo I think. Ar first bread was wrapoed in wax paper and then they went to plastic or some kind of combo along the way.

@snowy22315 I wish that I had a slide in my yard. They were a lot of fun.

Believe me, today"s kids still find ways to make those slides slide faster. Crazy.

My grandfather had a bakery and I do remember the machines wrapping the sliced bread in some kind of wax paper, Eventually he switched to plastic bread bags,

Yes, somewhere along the way it changed. Plastic was probably cheaper.

it was fun, although the slide could start growing like a rocket.

@JimBo452020 The worst thing that ever happened to me on a slide was going down fast and hitting my back on the end of the slide. I didn't get hurt though.

I think has to do with wealth. I hate most surfers but wax their board, skate boarders go opposite for common sense..My point is most children of wealth would never know that, has nothing to do with nanny state, poor or kids with no money always find a way where rich kids go I have butler and own skate park.Exception to every rule but the most part we live in spoiled brat era

Our bread didn't come in waxed bags and the slides when we were growing up were metal. Slides today are made of plastic and I don't think wax would work. Here back then we just used sand.

Oh yes, this brings back memories. You're right today's nanny state would definitely not allow this today. I feel bad for today's kids.

Yeah, they could only do it somewhere where adults weren't hovering. They would have to know to it in the first place

I remember begging my grandmother for a piece of waxed paper to slide down on. After a few slides it was worn out, but the slide was faster than ever, I had forgotten about this.
