Why do people say WE are pregnant?

The woman is the one who is pregnant. The guy most certainly is not. I could see if they said "we are having a baby" but the whole idea that a couple is pregnant just makes no sense to me. What do you think?

Personal preference and free speech I believe.

I think it just became an expression over time. Like "Drive safe" That is the one that bugs me

Where I am from, I think that most males would say "My wife is pregnant. We are having a baby" and women would say much the same. "We are expecting" could also be said by both parties but NOT "We are pregnant" (unless using an ironic or disrespectfully humorous 'royal we' in reference to the wife who has doubled in size and is eating for two!) If a man were to announce to his mates that "We are pregnant", it's almost certain that they would fall about laughing first and then congratulate him (with heavy irony and plentiful suggestions for taking it easy, watching the cravings &c., &c.!)

I never said that. It was I who was pregnant. Sounds odd to hear people say we. Never liked it.

Oh I truly despise that saying..I guess I am old school. Why they say it? No clue it disgusts me.

She is trying to include the husband/partner in her statement. I think "we are having a baby" makes more sense and sounds better.
