Just When You Thought It Couldn’t Get More Gloomy

It is so dark , cold and rainy today. We went to exercise at the pool today, three young woman were talking in the dressing rooms with their infants and no masks. I told them “ladies you need to put your mask on, it’s the rule here” two said sorry and put them in. The third wAs the same woman from last week. She did have her mask on when we walked out. Cases are spiking in Connecticut, what part of wear a mask don’t they understand!! I had to speak up, they could ruin it for all of us. Anyway, I am making stir fry for dinner. Maybe tomato soup for lunch. I have 9 articles due tomorrow morning so that is what I will be doing today. Hope everyone is snug and warm and that no one was impacted by the hurricane yesterday.

Things are not improving and we cannot be casual about it But here is the thing @Butterfingers. Listen to what you are saying. Essentially we know more and more people are wearing masks and yet cases are still rising, and SPIKING even. If the masks WORKED, wouldn't cases be slowing? I cannot for the life of me understand why we are so focused on something that DOES NOT WORK instead of trying to find out what DOES work?

They say we are getting "mask fatigue". Our church will only be on Facebook live this week as many members of our small congregation have been exposed, and we are being cautious. Our school has some out on quarantine.

It's warming back up here again - I wish it would rain (but I can do without the cold ). There is something I don't understand . . . I know that less than 2 year olds do not need to wear masks, but it seems like their parents do not seem to think they need wear one either - they are not exempt! The cases seem to be spiking everywhere - people do need to continue to remember to wear these masks!!! Stay warm and dry! Best of luck with the articles!!

Artiles are done, it is raining here again, we need it so it is a good thing. But it is going to be very cold overnight so it may turn to ice.

I have to applaud you for having the bravery to tell people yo put their face masks on. I don't do it because nowadays people are rude in the streets.

@jvicentevalera I am not convinced it IS for anyone's wellbeing. If the masks worked, cases would not be spiking. Yet they are with MORE people wearing them. Not less. BTW, I am not denying anyone their pandemic. What I AM saying is that people need to focus more on what the REAL solution is and stop worrying about things that are CLEARLY not mattering... Like wearing a mask. We KNOW they don't work. So why are we being so nuts about wearing them? Shouldn't we be more focused on coming up with REAL solutions instead of insisting on encouraging fake ones?

@BelleStarr it is also a law here, and some people still break the law. It is so sad because on the end it is for their own wellbeing.

I just made my husband 4 extra masks to take with him when he leaves for Connecticut on Sunday. I am worried that he may become ill or bring the illness home to us. Scares the crapola out of me.

It really depends where he is going in Connecticut, have you checked what cities are red, that is where the cases are spiking.

Nice that you spoke up and they responded. I find students in class forget, but are good at gently reminding each other. I've been impressed. Someone at Hubby's hockey tested positive so we must isolate. (We tested negative) Hockey is closed and also the pool, so maybe was a case there. Pays to be careful.

Here in CT, we have a mask mandate so you are supposed to be wearing one but of course who is enforcing it?

We have pouring rain here today in Pennsylvania which I think is partly due to the hurricane. It's just plain miserable Good thing you spoke up about the masks. You would think by now that people would be more aware and not forget the mask wearing.

I am still not convinced that the masks have a thing to do with anything. Most of these masks are the equivalent of putting a piece of tissue paper on your face. They stop nothing at all, and is just a "feel good" measure. Not a solution. We have been wearing masks for how long now? And yet the cases are SPIKING. So, what good have the masks done? I think it is a valid question. If the masks were working why are cases spiking? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

@BelleStarr I can respect all of what you said here. Unfortunately 99% of the masks would not pass the test, and unless you can mandate proper masking...I guess we're just in the same boat. I think we are still stuck more in a state of semantics than doing anything effective. I do think there is a stark difference as well between the Spanish Flu which killed off 10% of the world population and Covid which has only killed off 0.01% of the world population. Not making light of it, as I have tried to point out many times on this. Just trying to stay real, practical, sensible, and keep my thinking cap on about it all.
