Would people object to more substantial posts?

This site used - once upon a time - to be a vehicle for people to post more than just a few brief comments that got a discussion going. There used to be a smattering of more substantial articles - even a few pieces of fiction. I sometimes get the urge to revert to the "old days" and post some of my longer pieces - which usually get sent straight to one of my blogs. However, I wonder if this would be acceptable to people - or would it be be seen as a form of abuse of the site? Should this be a chat site and nothing else? Just an idle thought - brought on the mention of being "erudite" on an earlier post!

It certainly wouldn't be 'abuse of the site'! myLot exists for intelligent, meaningful and original discussions and if a longer post can do that, then we're all for it! Please ignore anyone who calls you "erudite" (or, if you feel that it is unwonted criticism and harassment, then report them!). We do our best not to let it degenerate into a chat site and we frequently delete posts which really don't have any substance at all (though we can't possibly see them all, so many go unnoticed). The only thing I should mention is that it should be original (of course) and not previously published elsewhere, even on your own blog or website.

No I would not mind. What do you mean by more substantial?

I mean a full-blown article or story that ran to maybe 1,000 words!

People usually just post what they want. I have seen stories and poems here. If you have something like that just post it.People like variety.

I would be pleased to read posts with some substance. Those users who do not like "long posts" would skip. There are long posts that finally say nothing at all.

@indexer I do like a bit of short fiction and would not be averse to reading it here, erudite or otherwise.

@MALUSE Tonight I’ve been reading several short pieces of Chekhov’s fiction, though not on Mylot. He goes well with hot, black tea I find.

@MALUSE Short is good, however I do enjoy a rambling book. I have considered trying Oblomov, but it seems a bit pointless as is Proust whose ramblings we have both mentioned before. Chekhov, Joyce, Maupassant, Hemingway were all masters of short.

I do mainly come here to get into a little chat with people. But, I read all sorts of things. There is really no rhyne or reason to how I spend my time here.

Some people like smaller post or lighter ones. Others prefer more meaningful ones.

Well, this is a discussion site so anything that you feel would be interesting someone is bound to read. As for me, I prefer a discussion that doesn't include long reads.

Some people just don't have time to read all the post or make long too informative ones. There was a time back in 2008 were spam dominated this site. that changed after a few years.I remember comments used to be like paragraphs too. I hope you consider that not every one is hooked to mylot 24/7. like me who used to be addictive here, but not anymore.

I try to ensure that my discussions have at least some 'substance' to them although they're hardly erudite. lol
