It never fails

I feel the need to come home and get rid of things every time I get home from one particular friend's house. I don't know why that is the case, but it is.
I didn't realize how many books I was still keeping that I didn't need to keep. I wrote down a lot of titles, books that I might get in digital format. I may even skim a few more books off of the shelf too.
I have three bags full of books to sell to the thrift store.
It's liberating to get rid of things.

I am now down to one half of a shelf full of them. The rest of the shelf has my year books, an old wedding album (mine lol), a few comic books and my mom's precious moments bible.
I've really taken to the minimalistic lifestyle, atleast in some ways.

I could still get rid of books. Slowly doing it.
We moved in 2012, I stopped counting at 300 VHS tapes that I packed up and put into storage during the moving process!
Hubby kept buying VHS recorders to watch them. He had to find them at garage sales.
Yesterday I got rid of 1. He said we should get rid of them all, but I am waiting.
That is his department.

Definitely let him work on that project!
It's amazing, isn't it? We went from VHS to DVD to now everything can be watched digitally!
Same with music to be fair.

@paigea Maybe working on your own stuff will inspire him to do the same?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, things change. I just wish he would work on that project. I could use that nice big shelf. Anyway, I will plug away at my own stuff.

I give them to goodwill if the thrift store won't take them.. The library is too far away for me to make a trip just to donate books.

@LadyDuck Charities come and collect here but usually bigger furniture and electronics. I imagine they'd collect books if there were enough to collect.

@ScribbledAdNauseum They come to collect the books here, also the charities come to collect what you have to give them... well not 1 item, but if you prepare several boxes they come.

Slowly but surely I'm transitioning from hardcover books to digital. I never thought I would but right now I'm reading a book my daughter gave me. It's almost 500 pages and quite heavy. It would be so much better if it was digital

I am leaning more towards digital now myself. I love having the space and your right.. Those heavier books are easy to lift when it's on a digital device!

Hm that is strange. But good for you getting rid of the ones you aren't reading.

I kept some of them because they are on the "I will re-read" list, but I'm going to get those digitally now.

Yes, it's definitely liberating. We have tons of stuff still to get rid of.

It always surprises me how much a person can accumulate. I used to be the worst for it. I would spend money on things I didn't need. I do still do that sometimes, but I've gotten considerably better about it.

@LindaOHio I wish you luck with that. It really is an ongoing struggle!

@ScribbledAdNauseum I'm trying really hard not to bring anything else into the house that we absolutely don't need.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I have started selling my books on Ebay. I read a book and then go list it!

@kareng That's great! I hope you get lots of money that way. I know I could make more if I did that, but I don't want to sit on my books for too long.

It was like that for me too. I have a list of the books I want to buy digitally though. I like having empty shelves and the possibility of downgrading to a different piece of furniture over time instead of this bulky shelf.

I had over 100 books before I started to get rid of them. I thought I was done, but then I realized I didn't really need to keep all of them. I am only keeping the ones I know I will read and re-read.

Whatever books the thrift store doesn't take will either go to goodwill (which is technically a corporation - but it's a donation center here in the US) or into the "free" bin at the thrift store.

You always seem to find something you've forgotten about in the process too. Well, I do at the very least.
