The Best Present is the Present Moment

We all have our cherished possessions that we like to hold dear all our lives and then pass them on to our dear ones. However, they are transient in nature and separated sooner than we are comfortable with their parting. We have to get used to changing circumstances and to adjust and move on. I never planned major phases in my life and they just happened. Some that I had in mind, I couldn’t pursue but they proved a blessing in disguise, even a stroke of luck, as they would have turned as an albatross around my neck. I look back and am happy that I could leave some issues behind and look ahead. The world has that capacity to wipe the past clean and the present virus has not pinned us down and we are able to work around it. We have taken it in our stride while wracking our brains to get our lives back to the good old days. This year has reinforced a fact of life – there is no predictability in life and our ability to adjust and go with the flow decides how comfortable we are with our existence here. That applies to the king and the common folks. I have faced end of my world scenarios a few times but they are water under the bridge now. And a few opportunities along the way mostly spurned due to my wanting not to leave my comfort zones. No regrets except to recall the famous lines “There is a tide in the affairs of men. Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune”. However, I have found meaning in whatever life has given me and I embrace a fact that I have only the present moment to live my life, past is over, the future is uncertain, so why fret? Move on is my credo – nothing is the end and that most believe so, maybe our inner voice is reassuring us then. Look beyond the body and still the mind and then we know who we really are. When we make that a way of life, then we are beyond time, physical decay and other constraints that limit us. All part of the game and we are mere actors playing different roles. What you say is very true and you've said it very well. You're right. We only have the present.

@Shiva49 And, as the virus has shown us, circumstances can change in a very short time.

@JudyEv What inspired me to write this post was important events occur from time to time and we have to swim with the tide however painful the adjustment is for us. A few are given the opportunity to serve humanity in general but soon it is the turn of others. One should be grateful for the opportunity bestowed and do the best within the term rather than sulk when others are waiting in the wings. Yes, this virus has been a bolt from the blue for all and I have been wondering why none could foretell it. I have seen quatrains of the famous seer, Nostradamus, getting linked to important events in history but this virus proved how vulnerable and unpredictable our lives are. Every moment counts and is precious to us individually and to the planet itself.

Thank you. This attitude gives us the momentum to move on. Even comfort zones are temporary, also power, position, office we hold etc.

Well written! I like the idea that this moment is great but it will pass but there is another one right after it.

Thank you. I have been trying to catch up and live in the moments before they are history too. Every moment counts and we should embrace them. The very next moment we are far away - our galaxy moves an astonishing 1.3 million miles per hour in space through the universe!

Very well stated and written. It's true that the past has made us who we are today and the future is still unknown. The present is what we make of it. We should all enjoy the moments it affords.

@Shiva49 Personally, I don't think we will ever get back to the old normal. It will be an adjusted new normal in my opinion. Huge sigh.......

Thanks, we are trying to get back to the old normal and that can be possible only by using the choices still available now. We are going through a baptism of fire and need fire in the belly and masks on our face to keep our heads high!

Often we get frustrated about future but never think future may never come so we should make our present special and should live it full on

Yes we tend to get mired in the past and worry about the future. The past is past and the future has to be faced when it becomes the present. No one thought about the present virus but when it is on us we have to live with it and try to get back to life as know it.
