The liturgical season is almost through in the Christian world. That explains why our readings deal mostly with topics related to the endtime, end of the world, the kingdom of God. One metaphor Jesus used to describe the kingdom of God relates with the use of talents, which were silver or gold weights used as legal tender during the apostolic times. It must have been a fortune to be entrusted to invest one of those, as in the parable of Jesus.
The concept of talents has evolved through the centuries. Our talents are not just for display, for my personal benefit, for selfish ends. They are to be used for the greater good.

@Junbals I can name several golden talents that can be used contrary to God's plan. I am quite sure that the Giver's Sacred Heart is shred to pieces watching his gifts going to waste. If only all those given and entrusted with these gifts know that they are to be used for the greater glory of God.
