Did You Stock Pile Before The Virus?

United States
November 16, 2020 3:31pm CST
I was just sitting here thinking the more I try not to go to the store, it seems the more I have too. So I decided today, it's time out for this.We have no markets or gas stations or no Mom and Pop stores near us. So I recall, a few years ago, I was reading about stock piling, and today I can definitely see why it's done. It's most depressing when you think you have enough of something and you don't. I felt kind of down this morning about it so here I am, starting a stockpile list. Because the way I am going is for the birds

I always keep a couple of month's stock on most items here that are not date sensitive. And if you always stay stocked, the weeks that the shelf is bare at the grocery store for what you are looking for means that you will only be down by 1 and not completely out.

Thsnk you so much, I might just do that tomorrow, because pretty soon they might start hoarding again. Appreciate it.

@popciclecold When I began, I always tried to keep some cream of mushroom soup on hand, and if I needed cream of chicken soup, I would just add an envelope of chicken brother to it. Simple, but it worked.

I always have a stock of food to last a couple of months. Right now I have a little more pasta, rice, sugar, coffee and flour... just in case.

I am a pack rat by nature . I've always overbought things - had extras on hand. But I've had time during this pandemic to think things through about what is needed (instead of impulse buying a bunch of items). I guess you could say I've learned to manage to stock piling better.

Before the virus, I usually made once a month trip to the grocery and buy fresh meat at the market whenever needed. But now, I go to the grocery twice a month. I lessen my visit to the fresh market as social distancing has not been properly observed there

That's good, they don't social distance here either.

I don't really stock up anything. I go everyday to a store near my house to buy fresh vegetables and fish (or other proteins source).

@popciclecold I guess I am. And people here don't really familiar with canned food. We don't have many choices when it comes to canned food.

Oh yes! My wife had compelled me to purchase most of the lentils, frozen foods, medicines, etc., with more than 4-5 months supply! And I did the same! We are still consuming the same! But, around two days back, we have ordered online some pantry items.

@popciclecold Ohh! Frankly, I was finding it a bit extra-precautionary measure and also I had a very delicate argument with my wife! But, if you second it, I think I was wrong in arguing with my wife! You know, as per me wives make their husband a complete man - in most of the cases!

I'm not sure if we actually stockpile or not. I certainly have more of most things than I currently need but I don't have great cupboards of stuff. We are 5 miles out of town so I tend to keep a bit extra of most things.

Our pantry and freezer are always well stocked. I didn't stock more than usual. We changed the way we shop for a while. Waiting 10 days or so, and getting everything at one store. I guess we will start doing that again to help stem the spread.

@popciclecold Sometimes you have to make sure you have enough at home so you do not have to go to store very often. I try and put it off as long as I can before I have to go grocery shopping.

We can stock canned goods and other items that can last without refrigeration. But not those that need to be frozen. With the current situation in my country, foods will be spoiled because of frequent power outage.

Not sure why you put your last line there unless your tired of being low on supplies. I think some stockpiling is called for but try to stay away from hoarding. We heard last spring that one or two for enough toilet paper to last her a year. I'm hoping the manufacturers can keep up this winter season. So far we've not been out that I know about.

We are grocery shopping once a week and every time, we buy more than what we need. So, I think we are stockpiling.
