Day 105
Promise 564
Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, who are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he who is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dies no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he lives, he lives unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those who are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
People want freedom. They want to be their own person and not subject to others. Yet, we are all under authority to the law.
Paul told the Romans there were two kinds of laws, the law that brings death or righteousness that brings life.
As Christians, when you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, you gave up the world and the law of sin that brought you spiritual death. Instead, you are under grace which brings righteousness and eternal life.
You have a new freedom through salvation in Jesus Christ. A new freedom that brings righteousness and eternal life. You are no longer under the law of sin, but the law of grace.
Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
You are no longer subject to sin. God gave you His marvelous gift, eternal life. Therefore, live your life free from the wages of sin, alive in Christ Jesus.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for Your gift of salvation through Your Son, Jesus. Help me live in the freedom of grace and righteousness, alive in You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

While I appreciate all of Paul's letters in the New Testament, I find Romans to be a bit hard to read. He is often long-winded in his message in Romans, although the subject matter is of great importance. I wish he would have simplified his message more in Romans, instead of dragging on his thoughts. Don't get me wrong, it's not a condemnation of Paul or his message at all, I just think it would have been easier to attract new believers to the faith if he had just kept it simple.

I agree. It took me a long time to understand what I was reading in Romans. They didn't have grammar checks back then. He did have a thing for run-on sentences. Romans can be summed up in two words - Not Guilty. or No Condemnation. Take your pick.
I try to get to the meat and potatoes of the passage. In this case, finding the promise in the passage. Thanks for reading. I hope you have a blessed day.

@just4him I have a Bible with notations included, that kind of gives summary explanations of the writings, as well as historical, cultural and political considerations of the time period. It really does help me understand more about what I am reading. And yes, Paul was notorious for run-on sentences. But thanks for the easy summary of the book of Romans.

I've been trying to read my Bible more and still intend to do so later when I have the recliner because it's in that room but for now this works too. In fact or truth, I could just read the verses you share if I'm not able to get to my Bible.
I've also been going over specific scripture verses at night or in the day and see what I remember from memory. Not as many as I used to know but if I continue with them I know I can get them back.
We call them retemories.
Your up early.
