Forced perspective - it's just an illusion

I have a large collection of horse ornaments which I now wish I didn’t have as I need to work out what to do with them before I die. The Beswicks are the most valuable and I also have some Border Arts which are very lifelike and probably my favourites. And the one I like the most of my favourites is the Arab mare and foal seen in the photo. Vince took the photo for a challenge calling for ‘forced perspectives’ so he has tried to make the ornament appear to be lifelike in size. It works quite well, don’t you think? Edit: The ornament is 16 x 25 cm (6 1/2 x 10 inches)

Ohhh - so what is the actual size of these? I thought they were "statues" - so the forced perspective worked on me. I thought "ornament" might be a word for statue used in Australia .

I've put it in the text now. Should have put it there from the start but didn't think of it. It's 6 1/2 inches x 10 inches. It's pretty authentic, isn't it?

You could donate your collection to a museum and have a section put your name in the horse collection.

The one son that might have some interest lives in Ireland so can't possibly take much back with him. Glad you like the photo. I do too.

When I was a child I loved those ornaments, I was mad about horses and I really wanted some of those but they far were too expensive. Now I'm glad I don't have them as I don't need more clutter!

@JudyEv I have pretty much stopped acquiring ornaments because then, as you say, someone else will just have the job of getting rid of them again! And that's hard - I still have ornaments from my mother and my grandmothers and great aunt!

@Fleura It's really hard to get rid of some. I guess, in my case, they won't mean much to anyone so won't be hard to give away.

I saved and saved, bought and sold on Ebay, etc but now I have too many. And no-one that wants them when I go. You sure you wouldn't like some?

My boys don't really want them and there are no grandchildren. I've been able to give a few away and some I'll put on Ebay eventually.

@DocAndersen One son is married but they can't have children. And he lives in Ireland so there is no way he could take 30 odd ornaments home. And the other son isn't married and has no room for (or interest in) ornaments. But it's okay. If that's the worst of my worries, I'm very lucky.
