There was a cricket in my kitchen...

Yesterday, I was washing dishes in the kitchen and when I was done I turned around to leave and saw a big bug on the floor. Being me, I freaked out and made a run for it. I was getting ready to go get one of hubby's shoes and smash that thing. But something made me turn around. And when I did I noticed that it was not a bug. It was a large cricket. I have no idea how it had gotten into the kitchen. There shouldn't have been any crickets in the house. The praying mantis had eaten all the live ones and there were none left. My only thought was that perhaps the cricket had jumped out of the cricket bag and we didn't notice. But if that happened it was days ago. I wonder where it was hiding and how I never noticed it until that moment. I ran to get tweezers, used them to grab the cricket before it ended up going underneath the stove (it was close to it), and put it into the terrarium habitat where we keep the praying mantis. At first the cricket was hiding underneath the branches and the praying mantis didn't make a move toward it. But then the praying mantis must have seen it because next thing I knew she was holding it and devouring every bite. Since we were out of crickets this was a great find. This gave her a snack to tie her over till we buy her more crickets.

@LindaOHio It is the egg case of a praying mantis (and other creatures). That's how they protect their eggs I guess.

Well, at least the praying mantis got some food and you got rid of an intruding cricket. Win, win.

Yep. Win-win for all. Hubby bought worms to try. So far we've only given her crickets. She seemed to enjoy the worms. Now she will have variety in her diet.

@porwest They don't eat regular worms from what we read online. We got super worms from Petco and she seems to like those.

@lovebuglena Worms would be easy enough to get too. Just wait for it to rain or do some digging.

Oh glad you found the cricket. They are meant to be good luck in the house an old superstition.
