Automated Awkwardness

A couple of weeks ago, I was in a department store that I rarely go to. As I was leaving, I paused at the exit and waited for the automated doors to open. They didn't. I realized "Oh, I actually have to open this door myself!"
A similar thing happened in a public women's bathroom recently. When I was ready to wash my hands, I put them under the faucet. Nothing. I moved them up and down, then side to side. Again, no water. I looked again at the faucet handle, and realized that it didn't have a sensor. Ooops!
You mean I actually have to turn the water on? I felt foolish!
Just when we start to expect that most things are electronic/automated, we get a surprise! We have to actually use our muscles and do something for ourselves!
I'm not sure that so much "convenience" is an improvement to our collective lifestyle.
What's your opinion? And have you had awkward moments like the ones I mentioned?

i don't venture out much. though must confess that whilst havin' auto-flushin' toilets 're a tad more sanitary, 'tis rude when such do so whilst yer barely off the loo.

I know better than to expect a door to open for me, or for a foset to turn on and distribute water. I'm actually surprised when I use a public toilet, and the tolit auto-flushes as soon as I transfer away from the seat. I keep wanting to push the handle. I however have dealt with doors where I tried to push and had to pull.

Sometimes, I don't have a choice. I just wish they had a timer or something. I don't always complete a transfer when they flush, and of course public tolets are open. @BloggerDi

Thank you @kaylachan. I've had the same annoying problem many times with public toilets too.

Hahaaaa @sol_cee!
Right! One of my favorite things to write about is life's common embarrassing moments. We feel so awkward now, and laugh about it later!
