Not gonna make it

I aim to read 200 books a year, but my total currently is 148.5 Some of the slowdown could be because I'm doing my cross-stitching and some of it could be because authors are writing longer novels: "pocket books" or paperbacks routinely run to 400+ pages these days. They just go on and on, long past a natural pause in the story that could be a satisfying ending.

I slacked off so much this year but I'm back in the reading mode. I agree that some books could be fewer pages.

What sort of cross stitching are you doing? Does it not spoil your eyes?

Yep, being as it is December you are not gonna make it. I recently started reading heavily again because my Overdrive app is now working so it makes it very easy to read library books.

Yeah, even if I manage to read a book a day that'll only add up to 175.

OMG ! That's a goal I have about 20000 books and there was a time where I was buying 30 books/month, but I was not reading half of them seriously, I don't think I ever reached 200 in a year.

@vandana7 Yes, she wrote back when books were stories, not sagas...

It depends. If I were reading Agatha Christie, I would.

That's a very high target and I cannot even finish a single book maybe because I don't like reading. I hope you can make your target next year

Wow that’s still so impressive though how many you have read. I have only read 19 . That’s less then half my usual amount per year.

That's a lot! I only read web novels lately. But I am pretty sure it's not that much a year. Wow!

I haven't been counting. I suppose that GoodReads has. I'm too lazy to go look. I normally read at least two books a week, and usually more.

I read past my goal of 200 but I don't know how many I'm at now. A lot of them were short novellas from the KU program though. I have noticed lots of print books are getting higher and higher in page counts.

Yeah, gone are the days when publishers were content with 200 page novels. Now they're 400+ pages.

@BarBaraPrz A book has to be really riveting for me to read past page 250.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I will read a book to the end, no matter how bad it is, just to know how things turn out.

My goal for this year was 55 books. Because of the pandemic and library closures I think I read only slightly more than 30 books (don't remember the exact number) this year and that's that. That's a bummer for me that I didn't reach my goal. Maybe I will be able to do it better next year, assuming libraries will be open and will resume their regular operation where people can browse books and then take them out. For now, it's just grab-and-go service here. You put a book on hold and then come to the library to pick it up. Can't browse for books. It can take a while before the book you placed on hold actually comes to you. Another reason why I didn't reach my goal.

@BarBaraPrz You are lucky! I have books in my house and more in my parents' house that I never took from there. But I read them all.
