Tired of fighting

I am fighting off sleep, and it is not even 8 p.m. here. I am also tired of fighting to get into the site today and stay in.
I am not quarantined, but we have two teachers out that have tested positive for Covid. There are paras that are quarantined. They have been assigned to support the zoomed lessons for the students that have been moved to remote learning.
I get to work with the kids that ARE in school. That means mostly my young man that is in a wheel chair. Lots of walking for me and lots of lifting and transferring of him.
My sciatica was bad all weekend and was bad today.
I see the PT tomorrow. I am glad.
I have been totally lazy since I got home and I am heading to bed early.

PT is good to help me address these issues and I always feel better after. I use bad body mechanics, whether I am lifting my kiddo or not. And the chairs for the classroom tables seem to make my issues worse. On the good side, I was having a lot of knee problems the other day and the therapist really helped get it relaxed and stabilized.

@crazyhorseladycx She did manual traction on my knee and she says the fact that it works means that my knee pain is caused by my back.

Hope you sleep well. Any reason why your child isn't able to transfer on his own? If he learns how (if he can) it would be a lot easier on your back and boost his confidence as well.

Physically he would be able to help more, but he has mental disabilities that seem to affect his motivation. I have worked with people who could stand and pivot and do things for themselves. This little guy has been in school five years now, if you count two years of preschool. The preschool teachers say that when he first started he would do nothing, could not sit, and his mom's one goal at that time was that he would do more moving on his own. Well, he does that. He sits well, even in a classroom chair for short periods of time. He does not get as much "pushing" at home to stand, etc. His community based therapies got shut down due to covid and his parents have never sent him back. . . it may be an issue of him not wearing a mask for going to PT at the hospital. So, he gets PT at school and then those of us who are not the professionals work on following the plans. Eventually he will be helping with his own transfers. He loves to wash his hands after toileting and you should see him stand at the sink to do it.

@GardenGerty The reasons he hasn't been to PT could be a number of them. I think his parents could stand to encourage him more and work with him at home. If he's not doing enough, it'll be a lot harder. Good to know he's trying.

@kaylachan Last year he would stand more, but would not wheel himself. This year he wheels himself all over the place. I am not in his parent's shoes and so cannot judge them.

In the past it usually would resolve itself, but this has been going on since last July. Sometimes better, sometimes worse, but always there. It seems like it is getting better.

There are also two bus drivers that are out, and part of the high school basket ball team got exposed by someone who provides some support work at the game, also on the bus. Everyone seems to just be working short handed.

I just wish it would get back in shape. Not so young as I used to be. Today has been a decent, lower pain day.

Is that part of your cause for the sciatica? Lifting that student? That would be difficult if your the only one there that can do that.

My sciatica started in July, while school was out. Last year I felt it was hard on my arms and shoulders to lift him. Other people do some lifting and transferring.I am just with him the most.

I feel great in the morning when I get up, but it wears on me as the day goes on.
