OTH

OTH stands for ON THE HOOK. It's a crochet term I had to familiarize myself with when I started delving into the world of online crochet groups and youtube videos. The picture shows progress I made last night. I've actually finished most of the blanket and am now adding a border. I didn't have enough of the green color to continue the pattern, but that's okay. This was a blanket I started crocheting with my fingers several months ago. I finished it using a hook. My gauge didn't change much, but I did decide to go from DC to SC (Double to Single Crochet). The border is in black which is the only bulky weight yarn I had. This is more of a lapghan. I am going to do two rows for the border.

I thought about making this a gift at one time, but I hadn't finished it in time. Truthfully, I would have liked it to be a little bigger than it actually is. Oh well.

@kobesbuddy That's sweet of you to say. I love these two colors together. I have a pink and grey / silver one too that I need to buy more yarn for.

That's how I felt when I first tried many years ago. When I picked it back up, I started with practicing with my fingers. Then I moved onto hooks. I used bulkier yarn and I watched lots of youtube tutorials.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I think I need to use bulkier yarn but I cannot find a source here yet

@rakski I hope you can find a source soon. Bulkier yarn can be more expensive too.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Well you were consistent through the seasons . It looks so pretty! A couple rows at a time works - probably better for your hands too.

I started this in the spring... I'm just now finishing it in the winter Well, it's not quite the first day of winter but you know what I mean. I usually just work a couple of rows at a time and then stop.

@much2say Oh much. The first blanket I crocheted was done with my hands instead of a hook and I worked on it all day. I couldn't sleep that night because my hands were throbbing.

Thank you. I really love this one. I haven't used it yet but I thought about using it while at my desk since I get a little chilly here sometimes.

From what I can see, it appears to look pretty good. Well, what I can see of it, anyway.

Wow, thanks? The way I read that was "Here's a compliment, but only for the good parts of the blanket." Nah, I'll admit I still struggle just a bit with weaving in ends. Sometimes that looks untidy and I need to block a bit better. The weaving in can be fixed by a better yarn needle though.

My mom crocheted when I was a little girl. When I was in my early 20's, i wanted to learn but her hands wouldn't work to teach me. My aunt taught me a little, but I gave up for a little over a decade.

Thank you. I used an L hook to finish it up. It is pretty much all even except for the top where it's a little skewed but I hid that with two rows of Half double crochet border.

I'm learning new terms all the time to be honest. UK and US terms differ too which complicates things when watching a UK tutorial. A UK treble is a US double for instance.. I think.. Honestly, I usually follow US tutorials or UK tutorials with US terms.
