Today we celebrate the feast of the Pope Damasus I, the Bishop of Rome from 366 to 384, an apostle who spoke strongly against heresies but ardently encouraged the veneration of saints. That is why we have saints. Pope Damasus I presided over the Council of Rome in 382 that determined the official list of the sacred scriptures now known to us as the Holy Bible. That is why we have a Bible. St. Damasus supported another saint - Jerome, the most learned of all the fathers and translated the Bible into Latin. Just so we know who compiled the Bible.

That is great information for us Catholics. I never learned that from school. Those tidbits of information makes a lot sense of the history of the Bible and appreciation of it.

We must all grow in faith. Like the doctors, we must study each day because there is much to be discovered aside from what was taught in school. Neither did I learn that from my twelve units of Theology. Believe me, I read the Bible cover to cover at the Blessed Sacrament because there was a huge Bible there. The print was big and easy to read. It was just a matter of getting to the Blessed Sacrament daily. Which was no effort at all. When my Mother learned about it, she sent me a huge Bible, too. I love my Mother.

@eileenleyva I am not that well versed when it come with the Bible admittedly. But when I was young my mom gave me a Children's Bible that has complete stories from Old to New Testament. But of course the way it was written was something light and easy to understand for children like me before. It somehow gave me the idea how, and who the main people of the Bible was and the stories behind everything that happened during those times.

De nada. We all ought to know especially when some cult question your faith because the belief and tradition are not specified in the Bible. Sigh.
