Law of Transference

A story is told about a father and his 6 year old son who wanted to watch the sunset at Manila Bay, a famous place for sunset. The father explained to his son how the sun now turning crimson is going down into the horizon and the father continued to narrate excitedly that seconds after the sun will hide behind the ocean, you will see a flash of light sealing the sunset. And in real time, that was what happened. With a sense of admiration, nodding and shaking his head, the son looked at his father and urged him, saying," Can you do it again, Dad?" This story is a good example of the Law of Transference, which is a projection of child's emotional relationship towards his father being now attributed to God. Of course, the father has no power over rewinding the sunset, but for the child, father knows best, and thought his father might have supernatural powers to turn back time. When Jesus was hanging on the cross and was about to die, he shouted to His Father in heaven in Aramaic, "Abba", an endearing address to His earthly father Joseph, the carpenter. His moving, personal attachment to Joseph is projected to God. Are you a good father or parent to your children? When was the last time you played with them?

That is ok. I just hope you had a substitute father like an uncle, a grandpa or an older brother who would be taking care of you with disinterested love.

@Junbals fr Jun I am not married yet and I also don't have children of my own yet but I do have nieces and nephews that I consider as my own children. I can't say 100 per cent that I have been a good parent ( I seriously consider myself as a parent ) fr Jun but I have tried my best to set a good example for them to follow or not to follow which ever they might decide to do.
