Feeling a bit of a fool

The story by @LeaPea2417 about getting confused and lost reminded me of a funny incident one time when I was shopping. I went into my local branch of Marks and Spencers which is quite a big shop with two floors. The things I wanted to look at were on the upper floor. After I had done what I needed, I was at the other end of the shop from the stairs so I decided I would be lazy and use the lift (elevator). I walked past a couple of racks of clothes where people were browsing, got in, pressed the button, and waited. The doors closed and the lift was so smooth I couldn’t even feel it moving. When the doors opened I got out and walked past a couple of racks of clothes…. and then I realised that in fact the lift hadn’t moved, I had just got out again on the same floor! Those people nearby must have seen me walk into the lift, wait inside with the doors closed for a couple of minutes, and then walk out again. I wonder what they thought? I was too embarrassed to get back in it again, I walked to the stairs after all! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2020.

I’ve done that myself! Two fools we are! I forgot to press the down button.

Really? I definitely did press the button, but I guess I must have not pressed hard enough or something. I thought it was a very smooth ride!

@Fleura Yes, I entered the elevator and waited until the door opened. It was a smooth ride, too, but I thought it went rather fast.

I should stick to the stairs - better exercise and less embarrassing (apart from the time I fell down them...)

Haha. Probably no-one really notices but it seems like all eyes are on you when you do something like that.
