Addresses and databases

A post by @GardenGerty just reminded me of this.
Many years ago I used to work at the Medical Research Council (otherwise known as the MRC) Bone Research Lab.
At some point someone who worked there must have used this address, maybe for a delivery or something, and somehow it had got onto some sort of database, and somehow the name had got missed off…
Anyway I remember that one day we received one of those junk mailings that told you that you had almost won a prize draw and all you had to do was return the form in the envelope provided. It was one of those annoying letters that keeps repeating the person’s name all the way through as it told you what you might have won.
It began:
‘Dear Mr C. Bone-Research Lab,
You, Mr C. Bone-Research Lab, could be the lucky winner of £10,000 in our free prize draw! Just think, Mr C. Bone-Research Lab, what you would do with an extra £10,000. Maybe a new car? Maybe pay off your mortgage, or perhaps, Mr C. Bone-Research Lab, you have always wanted to go on a world cruise?’
You get the idea. It went on in this vein for the pest part of a page.
That made me laugh so much I kept it for years, in fact I probably still have it somewhere!

I think almost everyone in town has lived at my address at least once, when it was a rental.

Which in turn reminds me of the times people's pets get on mailing lists. I think Mr. C.Bone would make a lovely name for a dog treat.
