Kharla Jolly wrote a post about Bhem, our myLot friend who died. I did not know this and was grateful for her post about it.
I was sad to hear that our friend in has passed on to a better place. She lived in the Philippines where health care seems to be different from other places.
She has a special place in my heart. We had several discussions. I talked to her quite a bit. She was on dialysis and I told her about my son with kidney problems, dialysis, and transplant.
She told me about her treatments and she needed better medication and she can't get it unless she had a sponsor to pay for it. That broke my heart. I told her I would pray that she got a sponsor and I did.
Should health care be considered a human right? What do you do if you can't get the proper treatment for your disease? What do you think?

Yes RIP Bhem Terribly sad, heartbreaking. Yes health care should be a human right. Then if I cant get treatment, then I dont as is the case now in fact.

Bhem needed a kidney transplant, which would have saved her life. When I mentioned this to her, she said, 'No, I can't receive a kidney transplant because with the medical care in my country, most of them die!' This made me cry, knowing Bhem wasn't getting professional medical care, she so deserved!

@kobesbuddy I know that the average person could not. It would involve expenses for the rest of her life and most of us have obligations we need to pay for. It is sad. I was hoping someone with a lot of money would step forward and pay for what she needed.

@akalinus I would have sponsored her also, but financially we couldn't do it.

@akalinus A very sad, shocking news.I did not know Bhem is no more.. I had responded to some of her posts, but had not seen her here for quite a long time. I think healthcare should be considered a human right. But I don't know much about it.

@akalinus I agree. In our country the government has launched a scheme to ensure the best possible medical treatment to the poor.It has been one of the most successful schemes of our government.

I was happy to be reminded of her as well. I do miss the back and forths. But life is not always fair. It is unfortunate especially considering she was so young.
As for healthcare being a human right, that's an odd way to put the question forth. Certainly in the Philippines things are different there. In the U.S. you cannot be denied services just because you cannot afford to pay. I think that should remain, even though I know at the end of the day part of my bill includes the bill someone else can't pay.
If the question is, should we have universal healthcare, which is a more relevant question to my mind, then the answer is no. We should not. Part of what makes our medical care in this country so great is that it is PAID for, and because there is a profit incentive to make the advancements we do.
If healthcare were free, or "universal," the care we would get for nothing would not be the care we get now for something.
