The saddest thing I have ever read in the Toccoa Record

I live in Toccoa Georgia and enjoy taking the weekly News Paper, The Toccoa Record. Each Christmas Season, it's so sweet. They have a section where second graders, will post what they want for Christmas. It's so cute. The little kids will express what they want, but because they are just learning to spell and write, they many times misspell what they want. In this 2020 edition, it was so sad. The addition that saddened me was: Dear Santa: I want an IPAD. I want a Nintendo. I need my Mom to get back with Dad. Love: Karson That poor 2nd grader. Divorce sux! Pray for this kid Can you imagine being a kid and being so sad your parents broke up, that you would make a statement about it in the local news paper? I wish I could give that kid a hug !!

Divorce does suck as it is a sad thing. That being said, it does depend upon the relationship and how the parents handle the divorce regarding their kids. I believe sometimes a divorce is better for the kids than the parents staying together. My parents divorced when I was 11/13 (don't remember the actual age) and I think it was a good thing.

@Mike917602 did your parents remain friendly after their divorce?

I can just imagine how that kid feels and perhaps his parents might have second thoughts seeing how sad he is,

Hopefully, if they don't get back together, they can remain friends.

It's traumatizing for kids when their parents divorce. If the parents stay in good terms they can move on, but when they fight it's a sad situation.

@LeaPea2417 Sometimes the worst moment for kids is when the parent with whom they live wants to re-marry. My niece was fine when her parents divorced, but she was shocked when my brother brought home his "new" girlfriend.

The poor kid. I know he doesn't quite understand what is going on. It makes me think of a song by P!nk called "Family Portrait."

I don't think children that age really realise the consequences of publishing something like that in the paper! Probably their teacher tells them to write a note to Santa and it will get printed, won't that be nice : ) so they have to do it without knowing it will be passed around the world.

That's true. I wonder how many of his relatives in town saw it. There were many entries , they would have to really search for it. I just happened to see it because I like reading the kids Christmas wishes.

That must be heartbreaking for the poor kid. Hopefully, he will receive counseling. My nephew was the same age when my brother divorced his sl*t of a wife, and my nephew and grew up fine after counseling.

@LeaPea2417 Kids get caught up in the divorce of their parents. It is very hard for the kids and I can see why you wish you could give him a hug.

Divorce is so hard on young children who really don't understand it all.

Divorce is much harder on children than the parents. Many think it is something they did that caused their parents to break up. That a lot of burden on someone so young and so unjustified.
