For the birds

We had a change of plans. Hubby thought it was too breezy for him to enjoy the zoo today. We drove to the reservoir today. We hoped perhaps to see eagles but did not.
Instead, we saw gulls, crows, and pelicans, maybe some others. Pelicans make me smile. We saw some single ones or one or two together, but as I read, they are social and communal birds. In one cove we saw over two dozen of them. I like how they look swimming serenely along in a follow the leader type formation.
"A wonderful bird is the pelican,
His bill will hold more than his belican. (or belly can)
He can take in his beak
Food enough for a week,
But I’m damned if I see how the helican. (or hell he can) "
I often think of this limerick by Dixon Lanier Merrit when I see one.
Looking online I have to conclude these are the American White Pelicans.
It was a good day for our picnic.

I loved looking at the water and a few fishermen. It is good to watch how the seasons change.

@GardenGerty I love watching the seasons change. I know I love winter above all, but I really missed the seasons when I didn't have them.
That's good you watched the fishermen. I could watch the water by the hour. There's something peaceful about it.

You may have seen more than just these white ones. I think down there they also might get the brown ones.

I read that they have out of proportion, shorter legs. One of my step grandkids got followed by one at a zoo one time. I think the pelican was lonely and he was about the same size.

I did not do a picture, just a poem. RasmaSandra put up a picture, though.
